If it's any help; I started doing Industrial Design with the thought: that's creative and technical, that should be fun. In de end I found out that I didn't like product design at all and now I'm graduating on a theoretical part of Design in combination with sustainability :P

Yeah I had teachers even bagging out ceeative arts when I was in my final year of high school. There's so much pressure against art careers ok but at the same time the practical side of art keeps getting watered down in classes

Ok I gotta go. Take it easy :)

I definitely think creativity should be nurtured in people, especially when one is growing up. It seems our education system likes to produce bots for the machine, rather than free thinking creative beings.

Too good not too old.

I see what you mean. I work in a highs cool and in every subject there'll be a kid that's just too old at what he does. Especially te music kids haha. I suppose necessary to let yourself follow your own path

Art wasn't even an option. I can't realy blame others, because I wasn't a slave, but when it came to uni, it was always either you have to go into science or medecine or computers.. etc. Didn't help that I was good at and enjoyed physics and math and still do :)

You'd have a killer way to introduce yourself atleast. That's a lot of degrees. Was it sort of trying to follow "sensible" jobs because art seemed far fetched?

Can't have regrets when you do that path. If I let envy rule me, I couldn't be on CD. Too many teens and young folk, reminding me what I could have achieved if I started at 18. :)

And finally figured it out and knuckled down.

04 Mar 02:32

Amit Dutta

Yep. I was always trying to do "something creative" but never really finding it. I got two degrees in Physics and Computer Science, a diploma in 3d animation and film. Worked as a whole bunch of random shit, before realising my focus left a lot to be desired.

Jacarran

Oh wow right. So in the years you weren't making art seriously were you pursuing another career or seeing where things took you or what?

04 Mar 02:25

Amit Dutta

--

Unfortunately I wasn't supported in my love for art early on, and I also let others sway me in different directions

04 Mar 02:24

Amit Dutta

--

I just realised, there was literally no reason to stop me from doing what I had always loved doing when I was growing up. So I did

04 Mar 02:23

Amit Dutta

Not quite what I meant. Just be focused and present in your self. Your work will flow naturally. The more you let others sway you too much, the more dilute your attention becomes.

04 Mar 02:23

Jacarran

--

Can I ask about how you decided to take your art making seriously?

04 Mar 02:22

Jacarran

--

Hmm right. I'll have to keep long term happiness in mind.

04 Mar 02:17

Amit Dutta

The trick will be in holding that mindset and attention in the face of a whole crapload of peer pressure :) but glad to have helped a little ^^

04 Mar 02:16

Jacarran

--

Yes! I still need to focus but not out of fear. I'll definitely keep enjoying my art now. There goes a mindset I've had for about 4 years in about... 10 minutes. Thank you man.

04 Mar 02:14

Amit Dutta

--

Great man! Just put your attention to your work and enjoy it :) no need to be scared

04 Mar 02:13

Jacarran

I'm really happy now instead of terrified. Sunset Lagoon is stunning.

04 Mar 02:13

Jacarran

If you started at 33.. wow. Those most recent works of yours are at the level where consider the artist godlike.

04 Mar 02:11

Amit Dutta

Ah thanks! Someone else i can study from I think :D

04 Mar 02:09

Jacarran

Theres a 20th Century Australia artist called Arthur Streeton who has some really nice trees that yours remind me of.

04 Mar 02:08

Jacarran

--

OH hahaha yeah I get that frustration. It would be like me hearing a 14 year old winge he didn't have enough time I suppose. I've seen really great artists start from 30+, I just want to do it sooner than later.

04 Mar 02:07

Jacarran

--

Oh wow... Your art is lovely.

04 Mar 02:06

Amit Dutta

--

I guess so. Some people are lucky they find out earlier on in their life what they want. Others find out later. You are so young still and saying these things I honestly am restraining the desire to verbally slap you. :) (jokes) I seriously started learning art at 33

04 Mar 02:04

Jacarran

--

Last year if you counted all the hours I spent *studying* in year 12, I'd say 40-50% of the hours was on which uni to go to hahahha. Too much second guessing stuffs me up a bit

04 Mar 02:04

Jacarran

--

Miles is a great example of the results of someone whose thrown their self into art without too much second guessing I think

04 Mar 02:03

Amit Dutta

--

And that hard...our world doesn't like us being attentive to what is good for us. It likes to keep us attentive on bullshit for the most part

04 Mar 02:02

Amit Dutta

--

Well we all have attention somewhere....where the attention goes will determine how we develop. It's that simple :)

04 Mar 02:02

Jacarran

That's good though, what you've said is encouraging :)
