--After emailing the site, a number of unbanned IP's on conceptart.org are being treated as banned cause of some glitch.

--My IP got banned from there. I only browse it every month or so, so that's a bit confusing. I'm wondering if someones hacked it or what.

--Yeah. Lectures are easy to get into here if you know the schedule, but you have to book with the tutor if you want to attend a class, which means still being a student.

--The art apartment of my university has a lifedrawing course, so you could look up whether it's the same for you... it's still questionable whether the teacher in charge is okay with non art students can taking those classes though.

--In other news - 2 of the already few and far between providers of public life drawing models and drawing sessions in my city have now ceased to do so.

--But i think there's a age difference in attitudes of the users. Older artists like Nick Bibby and Allen Williams and his wife are always very welcoming and supportive to their followers. A lot of the younger artists i follow just throw a few 'thanks' in the threads then turn around and attack what they think are criticisms.

--On the flipside social media plays a big role in creating networks and other bonds with artists we normally couldn't picture ourselves being able to do. it's something that, because of the sheer volume of people that use it and in different ways, it can't really be trashed as anything other than what it is. Any time sucking is done at the allowance of the individual :D

--But because everyone is on it if you want to market yourself and not just with "professional" posts, but also having a personal voice to say your views on something of value (we are artists after all) it can be very handy to develop a following. Followings mean potential customers, whether you choose to do it for that reason or not.

--It can be for sure! That is why I don't put too much time into posting personal stuff up there or browsing other's posts. It is so easy to get sucked in and substitute that interaction for real ones. I actually think facebook and its like is the beginning of the virtual hive mind net that all people's brains will be sucked into, while they sit strapped into mobility chairs and fed intravenously. It's coming.

--I think there is something slightly insidious about the nature of social media that is deisgned to amplify our basic insecurities as social beings in order to get us to spend more time on the platforms. I mean these things are conceived as businesses so the more time you spend on there the better for the company, whether it is positive interaction or not.
01 Mar 11:58
--I do know though, that I have unfollowed a few amazing artists because their personal posts gave me a little bit of insight into their perspectives and ideals, and it started to taint my view of their work. And creative work shouldn't be solely judged by what a douche someone appears to be. So I just unfollowed :)

--I guess just use it how you want to, there are no right or wrong answers. I personally don't want to share every thought or thing I might like with random people. It strikes me as a bit insecure to need that attention. I don't get a huge buzz out of getting "likes" because it just isn't meaningful to me, but I do get a huge sense of satisfaction out of helping others so I tend to interact more in that way online.
01 Mar 08:18
--How do you walk that line though? I'm always wary about "seeming unprofessional" but I also see the fun and importance of being a human on social networks too, sometimes.
