--And uh, indeed, keep that straight. The effort is still on the art, not on the social networking sites.

--And uh, indeed, keep that straight. The effort is still on the art, not on the social networking sites.
01 Mar 07:11
--That being said, being professional 100% also took away all the joy from the community for me, so being more on the personal side was a good solution.
01 Mar 07:11
--haha I bed to differ. I may not be pop enough, but if I share something, it's because I like and not to generate traffic; I'm actually worried my twitter profile is too personal and not professional enough.
01 Mar 04:44
--Heh, how could it not be? Almost everyone who's 'networking' on social media has the same, selfish agenda, so the only positive thing that can come out of it is a mutually beneficial business relationship. Artists don't talk about other artists work because they lke it, but chose based on what's popular and who seems likely to return the favor. Everything is a means of generating traffic. The silly part is that the only reason this kind of behavior is necessary is because everyone is doing it.
01 Mar 04:33
--I mostly use my facebook and other accounts as simply promo or tip/insight/artist sharing. 9/10 posts are art related. It can be good to connect with other artists through socialmedia sometimes, but it's pretty superficial and noisy most of the time
01 Mar 04:29
--Yeah. I think social media pushing is pointless until you have some decent work to show...then it can really explode it to new audiences quickly
01 Mar 04:26
--Yeah, social networking is a constant struggle for attention, so you gotta be active all the time to get traffic from it. A lot of people seem to be putting more time and effort into their networking than they do in their art, which is pretty bizarre.

--The main focus of a folio site is to showcase your work. The sharing aspect is probably better handled through social media and other linking, email lists, etc. For me, not a single paying client has found my tumblr by accident. In fact I get more hits from dA!
01 Mar 04:19
--In theory, perhaps, but I don't get much from reblogs myself. I found that because a folio doesn't tend to change that regularly, you aren't popping up in people's feeds a lot. I get almost no traffic to my tumblr unless I have been pushing it out a lot elsewhere. Tumblr is a microblogging platform, so it's designed around frequent updating. It's way more suited for being a sketchblog than a folio site.
01 Mar 04:08
--I guess the plus of tumblr is that your portfolio is in an environment where people will be linked to it through reblogs. No idea how getting views on wordpress works.
01 Mar 04:06
--I've been looking through some of those pro artist themes you've mentioned, and yeah, it's on a different level from your average tumblr
01 Mar 03:54
--There's nothing wrong with tumblr, it can do a decent job, but personally I want more control and more functionality
01 Mar 03:54
--Also it's open source :) Always a big plus in my eyes. Nobody is making money by keeping how things work under the bonnet out of your reach.
01 Mar 03:52
--If you can code, it's probably cheaper still, though you can pay someone to customise templates for relatively cheap if you really want something very specific(using elance etc)
01 Mar 03:51
--@ooloriel. Tumblr is nowhere near as flexible. WP.org is a very popular and stable platform. Tons of support, free resources, templates, widgets and code to use. You can build in any functionality you want like a built in store, or an integrated forum. It is totally customisable, and you can get a very pro site on the same level as a squarespace one for nothing except hosting fees and maybe a slick template (though there are tons of free ones)
01 Mar 02:24
--I'm going to be building my new site on a wordpress.org platform. Just looking through some pro templates, and there are lots of stunning useful ones. Well worth the 50 bucks. My tumblr site gotta die
01 Mar 02:13
--@Jan: Damn, I didn't notice that you are using wordpress.com. I thought it was a wordpress.org template build. They are different. The .com is a shittier restricted site unless-you-pay. The .org is a bit more technical, but allows you full control of the code. You can pick from tens of thousands of free templates, some actually pretty great, or pay a one off of 40-50$ per template for any one of the many high end gorgeous responsive templates. Both the free and paid templates are fully customisable

--thanks a lot Amit! I tried all those changes and they all worked, but I can't save them until I buy custom RSS from wordpress for 100$/year :( can't afford that right now, but I've saved your image and advices for future use!

--Same deal with the timestamp header which you don't need. Search for the class "entry-header" and make the same addition. Disappeared.
29 Feb 16:49
--@Jan. I inspected your site code. All you have to do is make the highlighted addition, and it will hide the menu thing if you want. Remove the code to bring it back :) http://orig01.deviantart.net/2382/f/2016...9thmah.jpg

--@Jan, the main purpose of your site is fulfilled...great work simply on display, one page, and contact info right up front. So you're good to go, send that out!! :)
