--with concept art we actually do the exact opposite, we try making stuff understandable for everyone at first sight and the intertexts are usually drawn from pop culture so that the target audience is as broad as possible. I'm personally a huge fan of people who manage to make art that's enjoyable without getting the reference, maybe thats why i like miyazaki so much. he just puts life on a plate and serves it to you.

--just to say that modern art isn't always poop :D it's just much more contextual than figurative art or even concept art. it almost always is a statement or comment or experiment related to something else. like the thing with mrconceptart; which only blew up that fast at the time because everybody exposed to it knew the context it was referring to and got it instantly. I bet if you don't know what he's been making fun of his pictures would be pretty boring. it's all in the intertextual relations.

--Amit there is a machine developed by artists and scientists that turns food into poop. they throw in expensive luxury food, bottle up the poop and sell it to art collectors. it's so accurate in fact that it's impossible to distinguish from human poop, even with a professional chemical analysis. they are even using the machine for research to learn more about our body. pretty cool art project as well imo, and it even has humor, too :)

--Aye, for traditional work it's both a curse and a blessing, making irreversible mistakes. Still, all part of the fun, right? I suppose that's why I work traditionally, you just can't beat the feel of it, in my opinion.
