--Color and Light is a pretty good starting point for just thinking about different kinds of lighting situations, but imo a big part of what makes lighting feel awesome is learning to use it as a compositional element, to create lost edges and accentuate vocal points and all that.

--As total beginner, start out with some introductory videos (gnomon, schoolism or YT have good ones); lots of simple still lifes from life (pay attention to what you're doing/seeing, try to recognize the principles you learnt in your lectures), analyze master paintings with good lighting and ask yourself "WHY does this look so great, how did the artist achieve that?". After you got some experience with the basics, study "Color and Light" by Gurney

--hey daggers! any ideas on how to tackle learning awesome lighting? i'm in a total pickle over here

--I clicked the link and was already halfway through. Sargon's the best haha. Sargon -like most feminist critics- is against Third Wave Feminism.

--Haha i feel a bit dirty pimping it out here, but there is a thread in art discussion about it!

--Nice :) Make sure the glass is not damaged. Especially the glass lenses on the inside. And be careful for dust and dirt inside the lens.

--Oh you're right, someone 10minutes away is selling a bunch of basic lenses 50mm included for $15 each

--DanialG; 10-22 is quite wide and might be difficult in the beginning. Try to get your hands on a standard kitlens (although the canon ones are quite crap). Other good lens to start with for Canon is 50mm 1.8. Brand new those are around 90 euros, so you should be able to find them cheaper secondhand. It is one of the best lenses from Canon and a must have for ppl who are starting out :)

--I'm trying to get a hold of a 550D for around $145, it's used but in decent condition. Basic 10-22mm lens, but there's a thrift store that always sells cool vintage lenses for like $2-5 each

22 Jan 09:12

22 Jan 09:03
--anyone know of a good camera that takes hi res pics? preferably under $400 USD?
