--Now, onto a serious reply, the other topics that interests me are all political and controversial and heck ... it's also scary to tackle.

--YES GO RESEARCH PARASITES (haha no not really, it's scary as shit, horror movies got nothing on them)

--+1 on the expressing your own reaction to what you're experiencing is important part, even if you only keep those pieces private.

--If you aren't dipping, you're definitely doing art wrong, categorically. :P

--Yeah, I have a few interests outside of art, I just find it hard to think up ideas outside of general fanart of the things I like. From what i've been told though you can train yourself to get more creative or atleast get ideas quicker, hence what I meant by time and practice.

--Ideas are not borne from technical mastery, they are an expression of yourself reacting to shit around you :)

--in my experience, the more you are engaged and interested in other things, this automatically generates ideas. Also nature. Always nature

--No worries! It's less about "how to get ideas from imagination"; nobody can really tell you concretely how to do that. It's more the overall discipline and general approach.

--Thanks for posting that Amit i'll look through it later, been trying to draw something from imagination first thing everyday and i've been finding it difficult to get ideas.

--Stardust: Just make 1 or 2 copies or studies of either photographs of the type of water you want, or from life. That will show you what you need to do to depict the most important characteristics that conveys "xyz water". I didn't do much water, but one thing I remember realizing from copying a photo a decade ago (lol) was that putting dark right underneath the white cap/foam really pops it out, and which colors to mix to get that ocean green. So take a few days to do copy studies.

--If you want a really good master to study waves, Fredrick Judd Waugh is probably your best bet

--StardustLarva, what kind of water? I think my go-to solution would be studying some old masters - plenty of water, both "ocean waves" and also semi-transparent creeks etc. Look how they've solved the problems you are encountering.

--Hey there Daggers, just wondering, does anyone here know any good tips or tutorials on rendering water (preferably in oil paint)? It's for a painting I'm planning.
