--I'm scared shitless but it's goddamn great
24 Dec 01:20
--I feel super excited for what's ahead, since I get to finally do what I really like and feel good about, and THEN expand and learn other things. Finally you can put together a plan that includes daily studies, personal projects and financial security work.

--joining in for the work topic late: I just today left a studio job. I'm starting freelancing full time, because I had it different than what meat said - I wasn't learning much in-house. You pick up some things but you basically end up with 3 hours of life/day period. You literally can't study or grow in any way. That was my experience
23 Dec 21:10
--hey guys, just wanted to wish you all happy holidays already :) keep rocking!
23 Dec 16:08
--JOB OPPORTUNITY: Hey Daggers, have an old client that came back to me for some Mech work (which I dont do any more) and my schedule is kinda full. Any mech hard surface guys out there PM me your portfolio. This is a private commission so not big money, but the client is real friendly and can attest to payment on time and reliably. (Must have mechs in portfolio :P will be concept art based, work scheduled for early feb)

--@Veronica: very cool Veronica! I think it works very well as an illustration, but if you want it to look more realistic, think about how the planes (ex. castle walls) interact with your light source. Do you have a sketchbook?
23 Dec 09:55
--I think it's an interesting concepts and you did a pretty solid job :) Just keep practicing and you will notice the little things that could be better
23 Dec 09:49
--Guys I just finished a piece I'm really proud of :) would love some feedback on it! http://imgur.com/gallery/fmlfo

--I have no illusions about art as a career, having tried many routes. Even getting into a studio is no easy task. Basically work on your stuff in your spare time. This is the last consolation I have. Looking back with regrets just compounds the problem.
23 Dec 09:12
--You'll soon start caring about money, when you realise you're in your 30's with no savings (yes my situation). Then fear kicks in big time!
23 Dec 05:59
--Daggers is just awesome! I'm so glad I joined you, feel like I'm not alone with my art stuff anymore :)
23 Dec 05:39
--3. There is no wrong or right. Everything is subjective down to a very fundamental level...so perhaps you could say everything you have done, you have done exactly right to be who you are today. :) Perspective and attitude is important...and like Sula said, gotta dig deep to survive some of the crap we all go through
23 Dec 05:39
--2. Regret and rumination: decisions get made, actions get done and your life gets lived, well or not well, but nothing can undo that cycle so no point thinking about it too long except to learn lessons from.
23 Dec 05:38
--Sula, We are tag teaming :) . Meat: Three things that aren't worth doing: 1. Listening to your fears and acting in any way that supports them.
23 Dec 04:53
--and also: remember this art business is much more a marathon than a sprint, endurance really matters. I feel nowadays I have wasted this 6-7 years in advertising; Like I had an obligation to be much better by now. But I did learn from it; I just need to calm down and keep going
23 Dec 04:51
--Woo meat, can you share your experiences? It's going to be my first time so I'd love some prep talk :)
23 Dec 04:37
--Sula: You will see me at Spectrum Live, last year was such an eye-opening experience I'm definitely going back this year and not make the same mistakes as last year
23 Dec 04:29
--... this library computer is damn slow. hopefully my laptop comes back to life soon. i can't believe it just out right crashed multiple times when all i was doing was internet browsing with a pencil sketch opened in PS.
23 Dec 04:28
--but until i actually get into that studio position i've been aiming for, i'm forever fearful i'm not doing the right thing, because i've got nothing to show that i've been doing anything right.
23 Dec 04:27
--i think my biggest mistake has been wasting my entire twenties in a bad place, almost literally ghosting myself, and then feel guilty enough to put off attending industry events to finally start networking with the right people until 2016.
23 Dec 04:25
--Yeah I know that, that's why I have always intended on getting into a studio from the very beginning to learn what freelancing alone can't let me learn. i just haven't been able to get into a studio position 'cos my work doesn't measure up to their in house work.
23 Dec 03:10
--I was planning to have a portfolio and set out to go to Spectrum Live. Won't any of you guys join me? :)
23 Dec 03:10
--but yeah, again I agree with Amit :) This whole living off art made me redefine faith. If I keep asking the questions, the whole thing just fall apart. It's a head down, work hard, dont think too hard moment for me. Still, I'm planning to make another push forward soon.
