--And while I know it isn't the specific AD's fault, they willingly go along with the rape of artists, so they can pay off their own mortgages and raise their own inconsequential families. Ain't no solidarity in this business brother.
18 Nov 22:50
--They are a company of approx 100 employees and make 30 million annual revenue, and pay professional artists $100 per card = the definition of capitalistic arseholes
18 Nov 21:24
--They told me I would "get the chance" to get an increase, the more pieces I did for them (unspecified number) and the more I was tested. I almost gagged that an AD could spew this bullshit out at their artists...even though it's their job. Seriously DO NOT work for FFG and their like
18 Nov 21:10
--After 2 FFG pieces, I refused to do any more pieces for them, and I let them know exactly why: I don't condone slave labour. I'd rather work a part time job cleaning toilets than work a full two days for almost nothing. I haven't been asked since haha. Assholes. Unfortunately there will always be artists taking these gigs, and unless we all grow some spine and stand up for something better, these leeches will keep abusing us
18 Nov 21:09
--I read from a few sources (ArtPact, Peter Morbacher and others) MTG seems to be 1000-1800. 1800 if you are a big deal, and that is after the price increase. This is approaching ok for an hourly rate, but it is the leader in the card art commission arena and most others fall way way below this.

--Looking for fellow artist interest by creature and character design and more to share and support each other
18 Nov 16:29
--take anything i've said with a grain of salt. that being said there is more than just MTG and appibot out there.
18 Nov 16:27
--hearing this thru the grapevine- applibot has changed its pay and company structure; its not hiring as many artist and the pay has gone down. not sure how much it is paying though.
18 Nov 16:11
--I think applibot pays less for lesser known artists. It also doesnt allow you to get royalities from prints of your work.
18 Nov 15:51
--no more like a sliding scale from 800 to about 1200 usd for cards might be a little more a little less
18 Nov 15:37
--Look at the amount of time it takes to become that good though and how many people make it?
18 Nov 15:20
--Yeah I got those figures right around the time the raise was announced, so yep, could start at 1000!
18 Nov 15:15
--they did relatively recently raise their rates so that might be outdated info
18 Nov 15:10
--I think it was mentioned in a Dave / Dan YouTube vid, but I was also given those numbers from Ryan Pancoast.
18 Nov 14:47
--Also using Brad Rigney as an example, he came out of nowhere and snatched up top gigs, because he was just so insane. No marketing or saturation previous to that.
18 Nov 14:44
--So, you couldn't "market" your way into taking more for a card. The art is the ultimate decider
18 Nov 14:43
--A little bit of everything, but like always, the art speaks for itself. All Magic artists are dominators, but yeah, there are few, ala Brad Rigney that are super-Shredders
