Basically, study until you've figured out a good method that works with you. If you can get out and do live drawings that's great. Finding local study groups at coffee shops is also pretty cool

either way, going back to Gristle's comment. It is hard and you have to put in a lot of hours. But if you have the time and the discipline there is no reason why you can't become a professional artist.
