I think you over estimate it jeso :D Life can be hard and boring no matter how much money you have, and conversly, as someone who has never been over the poverty line, some of the most exciting easiest times in my life were when I was homeless - not owning anything is very freeing

Punk, I was just saying, that at the beginning, life is hard, work is boring, money is shit, time is low, but when you make it, Money is lots, time is chill (if you choose it to be) work is exciting, its a contrast thing, and there is nothing wrong with looking forward to that.

I think one of the problems is that we all want to have control over everything in advance and it is pretty limiting. Nobody actually truly knows the road they will take. It is only really seen in hindsight.

what worries me is that yes i wanna do mtg work, but i want my own work to be something completely different. like absolutely unrecognizably different. not sure if im able to balance that. thats what really worries me atm

moneywise, i will stop caring about money as soon as i wont have to live on 12m² and eat shit food every day just so that i can make art

Nothing wrong with having that as a goal and focus Jan, nothing wrong at all, if it's something that makes you happy, use that

Also, Jeso, money and fame, while I'm sure are good motivators for some.. really, are not goals to aim for, if you listen to anyone in the art industry who has made it, they will tell you that if they are not enjoying life for lifes sake, than no amount of money or fame will make them happy, in fact 'getting there' comes with the fear of 'losing it all' ..so.. aim for personal satisfaction, rather than material satisfaction

I think someone has directed this convo into an extreme.

as stupid as it sounds its hard once you have a perspective though. if you know the road you could take its hard to do somthing that leads you in the wilds again. for instance, I wanna do mtg cards. its a really serious goal. so whenever i make stuff right now it always falls in that direction, even if i dont want it to

there is no decision to be made

My honest suggestion is, if you are not at the point of having to make a decision about it yet, put it out of your mind, because worry is crippling. At this point in time, enjoy what you are doing.

Well, just imagine how good its gonna be one day, how great and how much money you could make if you get there. Ain't that worth it? That's the most important question. Just keep the eyes on the price, Thats what i do, it keeps me fueled. Thats all im saying.

Perhaps you didn't intend it to sound like it, but the message was pretty clear. Because of one talk by two people, your entire attitude to your possible future has changed. You might want to reflect on that for a bit as well. We don't always catch ourselves when we become closed..so just be careful of it

So whats the point, whats the problem with direction? sorry i missed a chunk of the conversation.

18 Sep 08:47

Jan Kloidt

its more a direction thing

18 Sep 08:46

Jan Kloidt

I wasnt looking for a way out, or to close anything off, I think you misunderstood me. I just think that art is pretty much everything you can manage to make it and the more you make it what it wasnt before, the higher the risk/reward

18 Sep 08:44

The easy way out is cynicism, fundamentalism, negativity. It is a lot harder to stay open, but this is always going to result in a better outcome for you

18 Sep 08:43

Amit Dutta

--

yeah exactly. Honestly Jan I know it's hard, very hard, but the one peice of advice I would give anybody entering this game (or life) is that you HAVE to be open and remain open to possibility. The moment you close yourself off to one view of something, that's when you become the crazy bible thumper or the fundamentalist anything.

Just allow yourself to enjoy it. Consider each task as a personal challenge to do your best. I find there's always something to be enjoyed in even the most menial tasks.

its not forever, and the rewards are high is you push thru
