--Yep, I need to nail down perspective and anatomy better, then work on polish

--no need for shitty clients, i rather take a dayjob that deal with that shit

--from what ive heard, after you make around 30k and are establishing yourself, everything you add to that is bound to your marketing, not your skill as an artist
14 Sep 08:11
--alright, so to answer your question about payment. there are people making 10k a year or less. thats the absolute entry point. then theres people making 30k a year. thats when your work is looking professional enough to be on a magic card for instance or slightly below. and then there are people who make 100k from studio work, thats what a senior artist in a big studio would make. you can go above with freelance and even triple that, and then there are very very few people who even make up to 1m

--plus, the bit that worries me about the guys who take shortcuts and don't learn the fundamentals, give them pen and paper to hash out a quick concept at a meeting, it looks like a 5yr old drew it.. you /need/ to be rounded at least to an acceptable level

--You can put together a bunch of images, and make something completely different, outside of context of those images, using different values (or just using those images as a colour palette).. This to me sounds like an art on its own, and if someone is skillful enough to do it properly, I don't see anything wrong with it.

--To be able to use a cheat effectively you need to know the theory behind it - get someone to photomash/bash something together who has no clue what they are doing it'll look like crap - you still have to maintain perspective etc

--Foundational skills are essential of course. After that you then move on (if we're talking about digital concept or digital illustration work).
14 Sep 08:08
--I know (also according to Shadi and onepixelbrush) that traditional perspective is useful to know but is being completely replaced by the "cheats" as they call them, when it comes to concept art .

--if someone is trying to ridicule something with which he clearly has no experience with, thats not sarcasm, it's just stupidity. i know the last 2 days were funny on facebook and everyone got to make fun of everything but if you dont know what you are talking about, dont talk about it
14 Sep 08:05
--well to be fair, sarcasm, is much tougher to get when you are just reading some text
14 Sep 08:03
--Dunno why you lot think he's a troll,.. *blinks*.. sarcasm isn't universal?
14 Sep 08:02
--Sry folks - I'm no troll, Wasn't out to offend, but one has to laugh at the trends of the industry in 3d and mashups.
14 Sep 08:01
--It's a poor joke, but I'm serious about the exploitation of people in this industry.

--nope, these are serious job offers on upwork - not ones I'd apply for, but as a freelance website, it has a minimum payemnt of I think $5
