I'm not going to do it for the money sake, I have to be interested in what I'm doing to do it well.

Do you need a steady income right now, or could you sink some unpaid time into doing stuff for your portfolio/ working on something without up front payment?

mhm, I don't like pixel stuff either, but I do see it being advertised

In fairness I'd rather do illustration. Wizards, fantasy flight, Applibot or my own stuff etc.

Jeso

14 Sep 07:52

Nous

punk , I worked in a small studio already doing weapon art, but it folded before I could actually get better. I don't like pixel art.

if the vehicles are hard that means you have been skipping things

What style are you focused on Nous? Can you do sprite work, because I often see scroller backgrounds and sprite work for android type games

Jan Kloidt

if you tell me what your problem is maybe i can help you. i know how to draw almost by heart

14 Sep 07:50

Nous

Agreed with Kloidt, How to draw and How to render are invaluable, regardless how much of a nightmare they are to practice.

I'm still going to read tham Jan, it's just I got /lost/.. like.. utterly.. because it jumps into stuff with the assumption you can do what they ask

14 Sep 07:49

Nous

Ok guys I know it's a ball breaker and this industry seriously hurts my brain and ego.

14 Sep 07:49

Jan Kloidt

i know they are hard and i know it sucks to buckle down and learn from them. but you can trust me on that. they have been written by some of the best instructors on the planet with more than 2 decades of experience in teaching the subject. if you don't want to have that shoved down your throat you're missing out :D

14 Sep 07:48

Jeso

Nous, this is supposed to be hard, and yes it is fucking hard

14 Sep 07:48

Punk-A-Cat

You should aim for some indy games to start with, ones that actually have a budget

14 Sep 07:47

Punk-A-Cat

just go look at the cheap crappy games vs the spendy well rendered ones :D

14 Sep 07:47

Nous

I have done research but I'm getting variation. The problem if you are at low it's a tough climb to get into entry level.

14 Sep 07:47

Jeso

Nous, Im low lvl type, i can barely get freelance gigs every once in a while.

14 Sep 07:47

Nous

--

How do we measure who are the best people? I mean can you give examples vs low level types?

14 Sep 07:47

Jeso

--

On average in a game studio? you can find online Nous, do some research.

You know, I'm not gonna go into a debate which book is best. If you find those books good, then good for you. No need to shove it into someone else's mouth, mate.

Nous

Ok how about tell me the success stories versus what people make on average?

14 Sep 07:46

Jeso

--

A huge thing is how good you are yea, the best people, are making a shit load of money, the low lvl people.. the ones at the bottom, can barely feed themselves. But thats the beauty of it, just work and get better, and get paid better

14 Sep 07:46

Jan Kloidt

--

i dont care :D there is no excuse. these are the best books on the topic. if you want to learn it another way it only means its gonna be harder for you. no source out there is more comprehensible than that

14 Sep 07:45

and the focus - gaming would be the big concept art market
