they are literally the best thing that has ever happened to art education in the history of everything. i am not exaggerating. everything you need to know of how to draw and paint convincing forms is in there

Although in regards to construction, do check the Hampton posts about constructions, he speaks about why you should do construction, and speaks also about some of the old masters work.

i think ever single person on this forum, including myself, cannot go wrong by studying How to Draw and How to Render byScott Robertson. this is an advertisement :D seriously, if everyone here knew everything thats in those 2 books, we'd look like Art Center students. there is a lot more to learn but those to are about the core of everything that everyone here struggles with

14 Sep 07:39

Brian Hermelijn

Well actually there is more to the blog, since he's more of a person that draws for the meditative state of it, than creating art works for peoples, from what I know thus far.

14 Sep 07:39

Brian Hermelijn

--

Indeed. But yeah, that blog is more about accuracy drawing, there is no discussion in regards to construction per say;

I do think you can spend too long looking for the perfect method, it doesn't exist, you gotta just muddle through taking the useful bits from where you find them

14 Sep 07:37

Jeso

--

ok :)

14 Sep 07:37

Brian Hermelijn

--

Its an opportunity for learning when you have a discussion, about the methods, knowledge, techniques. No need to dispute such activity, you know :)

14 Sep 07:36

Brian Hermelijn

Jeso, is it wrong to have a discussion? Don't see why we can't have a healthy discussion going :)

Hey discussions/arguments can be beneficial and help us to learn ;) As long as we don't take it personally, of course.

14 Sep 07:36

Punk-A-Cat

--

Yep Jan, ... but I think that's why that website bugged me, because he was all about representation, no nod to construction

14 Sep 07:35

Jeso

--

guys.. just go draw.. x )

14 Sep 07:35

Brian Hermelijn

--

But then again, I'm still in the learning phase, learning more about what other artists exist out there, and so on.

14 Sep 07:34

Brian Hermelijn

--

Yeah that's what I'm trying to say Jan.

14 Sep 07:34

Punk-A-Cat

mhm, you need to train the connect between the hand and the eye too, or no matter how well you can see it, you won't be able to get the line right

14 Sep 07:34

Jan Kloidt

its like comparing mathematics or physics with psychology. there is a physical part to it. there are laws that decide why things look a certain way. and then there is what happens in your brain when all of that affects you. if you limit yourself to the first your work will look cold and boring and if you only do the latter its gonna be hard to communicate what you are trying to bring across. so you want both

14 Sep 07:33

Brian Hermelijn

That's essentially what academic drawing is teaching you, the ability to judge things accurately, drawing the basic forms etc. or am I wrong?
