--Totally punk, I didn't say you don't need those skills, what I meant is, if you do not train your eye as well, you won't be able to notice where things are wrong/right.

--I'm not disputing that you need to learn to draw from life, and accurately, but to draw from imagination, you need form, 3d form and perspective
14 Sep 07:31
--You will SOAR book, you will.. Keep working like a mofo, And i wanna read and see all about in the group's thread.
14 Sep 07:31
--I can't give you any answers, since I haven't drawn any dragons before.
14 Sep 07:30
--How do you draw a dragon then? That is from imagination, made up of 3d shapes
14 Sep 07:29
--You're still representing something from life when it comes to drawing, if not you wouldn't be able to draw it from imagination.
14 Sep 07:29
--Sweet Jeso, wootwoot. Haha. I'll be doing a perspective challenge anyway primarily, especially going to kick in after I finish my Deathline, the environment mentorship comes up on the 20th, and then I'll supplement my perspective learning with that.. I want to SOAR.
14 Sep 07:29
--Accuracy of your linework, yes, understanding of the object in 3d space and a firm knowledge of perspective, not really the ability to copy it from life
14 Sep 07:28
--constructing and representing are not at all exclusive. they just add up, and if you can't construct it youcan't think in 3d. you will always be limited to your 2d ref and it will be nothing but adjacent shapes instead of intersecting forms and light being projected on them
14 Sep 07:28
--Its decided, After the figure drawing challenge over at the Velvet Revolvers im Launching a perspective challenge... haha
14 Sep 07:28
--Talking about construction, Hampton made couple of series in regards to construction drawing not sure if you guys have read it; http://figuredrawingdotinfo.blogspot.com...ction.html
14 Sep 07:27
--Construction drawing you would still need to know how to draw accurately though.
14 Sep 07:25
--Really depends on if you are doing constructive drawing or representational I think, I don't like that blog so much because all his focus is on representation, I want to learn both

--JJ_Aaron is a prophet. His prophecy has already been set in motion. I'll be married by the end of the month.
14 Sep 07:25
--if you want to draw 3d forms you need to know it. there is no way around it. look at art history before it came up. there was no volume and spatial coherency in anything. i say it is the most important thing because literally every other fundamental thing cannot be understood without it. if there is any other thing thats equally important, its the motivation to learn
14 Sep 07:23
--That's where that blog I shown earlier comes in, its essentially what they first teach you is, learning to see, if I recall correctly. (the academic way)
14 Sep 07:22
--Well if you don't practice drawing accurately as well, no amount of perspective will help, in my opinion of course.
14 Sep 07:21
--Agreed Jan. It's been hard for me to come to this point-- Many years, in fact. But, if I can master perspective, I figure that I've conquered the hardest part.
14 Sep 07:21
--I wouldnt say its the most important skill to have, BUT I will say that, when you do actually know perspective, the quality and overall look of your work is gonna skyrocket for sure.
14 Sep 07:20
--perspective is the most important skill to have. you want to know how to draw 3d forms in 2d from any angle and have accurate knowledge of how behave in space. its the foundation of absolutely everything else and you can't learn it without focused effort on understanding the theory and putting it into practice. once you know it, everything else will be so much easier.
14 Sep 07:15
--im starting with anatomy and perspective then next stage value and composition
14 Sep 07:13
--Working on my methods. I think keeping it between 2 - 3 tasks back and forth will keep me focused without broadening too much.
