Speaking of time vs quality vs pay, I'm having a giggle at jobs posted on upwork... some are.. well.. funny.. On the non funny front, was looking at an illustration job, 1k for 60 images.. which sounds ok until you do the math on it, and they want full rights to the work. Which isn't as bad as the chick who wants you to do close to 300 illustrations for $30

The best we can do is to encourage each other and ourselves to keep that in mind. :)

But yeah-- Focusing on quality should be every artist's aim. In an ideal world.

I agree wholeheartedly. I only meant that one probably shouldn't overthink it. Anthony Jones actually recommended timing your work, to see what you're accomplishing in that time, and that you're using the time effectively/efficiently. It's an interesting idea, and as he said-- You end up seeing where you're spending the most time, and where you're having less trouble.

Forget speed. Speed comes with practice and many many hours at it. If you want quality focus on quality. I totally agree with the link posted, if you decide to do shoddy work because you aren't getting paid enough you will rapidly start to hate art. It's better to not take the work at all and do something you would rather do instead. I haven't once had ridiculously quick deadlines...often they are too long (procrastinator's trap!) but I tend not to work in film, which has these.

Doing it quickly doesn't mean that the quality necessarily suffers, either. Anthony Jones produces high quality images, but at a fairly quick speed.

but I guess it's different when you advertise them as such. Just a colored sketch for those who would rather collect art of their oc than have a good quality piece

oh come on I had finally come to terms with doing quick commissions hahaha

But, I guess that the industry has gotten so concerned with getting things done asap that it dilutes quality of work for quite a lot of artists

Hmm, cool. Seems like common sense, really. Always do your best and it will pay off... ? Hopefully? Haha.

Indeed. For the music part, I have found listening to the same music ease me into the zone faster, because it kind of sets a rhythm in my case,
