Instead of just drawing lines without forethought.

and the boxes so I can hopefully eventually eyeball a perspective

It's a good way. I liked Anthony Jones' 'art habit' talk. It came in 3 segments on his youtube channel, and he talks about it. The cool thing he did was drawing two dots first, one where the line will start, and one where it ends, so you can improve accuracy.

I know my three areas to work on currently - pose, environment and lighting.

I gotta find some blocks, I'm having issues imagining how a cube will rotate in space - been trying to draw it with tiny increments

I'm doing it to improve my line confidence

My pencil drawings tend to be very messy and chicken scratchy, which is why I may benefit from doing these exercises-- But I'm not going to do them yet, or maybe I won't get around to it at all.

i did get some of those wooden block toys, just the basic geometric shapes to help with that, going to light them for value practice next

I'm doing the dynamic sketching exercises, yeah

oh, ellipses I've been doing for longer, just not the boxes

I think the whole thing with circles and lines is just hand eye co-ordination, you could do it with /anything/.. I just use them as warm ups

Or are already.

The important thing is that we're all going to be awesome.

Well, everyone has their own way of learning. Not everyone may benefit from these exercises, they may come to the same conclusions in different ways. :)

I just want to be able to get perfect circles now, because .. I just /want/ to :D.. I got stubborn about it

05 Sep 20:05

Punk-A-Cat

--

yep.. the ability to sort of get it how you want it.. and then, hell you can do any number of hacks to get it 'right'

05 Sep 20:05

But to each their own.

I don't think it's important to get an ellipse perfect first go. Every artist video I watch they Ghost it first and entire pieces evolve until there's little of the original foundations left. I think adaptability is more significant than perfection.

Olooriel your going cgma dynamic drawing, that helped me loads in drawing!
