--at fzd they draw animals etc like low polygon models to practice perspective on soft surface objects
05 Aug 00:18
--you can also do some very tight perspective drawings of the animals in the zoo if you are more into animals :)
05 Aug 00:18
--its all about finding more about your own taste, so follow your instinct. just because fzd makes their students draw them doesnt mean you need to too
05 Aug 00:17
--but i'd only use that if you're actually into airplanes - if they dont interest you theres no point in studying them
05 Aug 00:16
--And airplanes have cilinders and wings under an angle that need to be attached properly, can be a challenge
05 Aug 00:16
--and after they've built up that giant crate of legos they start putting them together and start designing stuff from imagination
05 Aug 00:15
--afaik they just draw all kinds of things for half a year to fill up their minds with things
05 Aug 00:14
--I guess they do airplanes first because they are hard surface and easier to draw correct in perspective?
05 Aug 00:13
--Well everyone always say draw from live, so that should also apply to animals :)
05 Aug 00:13
--they also build scale models of airplanes etc and visit museums to really get a good understanding of what theyre doing. just looking it up online just doesnt cut it if you really wanna get into things
05 Aug 00:10
--i heard that in FZD they send their students to the zoo aswell to study from life, too. they could've just googled all of that but i'm sure they got a similar thought process behind it to really get a 1st hadn experience of it
05 Aug 00:07
--nice! sadly we don't have a zoo here or i'd do it aswell, but thats all part of the deal :)
05 Aug 00:06
--Lmao Jan. Got to visit the local Zoo this weekend, I'm lucky animals don't wear clothes. So using anatomy books is ok for your challenge, that's great!
05 Aug 00:05
--for some reason my gay friends are way more ripped than my straight friends, they'll make for some great muscle ref lolol
05 Aug 00:04
--i actually talked some friends into modeling for me already, just need to get em drunk enough to actually do it lol :D
05 Aug 00:01
--True :) You always need understanding from anatomy. But sometimes, especially with more complicated/unusual poses you will still need it. And being able to shoot your own ref then makes it so much more your own image instead of trying to find a kind of matching image
04 Aug 23:59
--theres a lot of successful artists who can't do that at all tho, so its not required - but it'll make you much faster and more independent
04 Aug 23:58
--true, but its even better if you practice anatomy well enough that you can make up poses and angles yourself and don't need the ref anymore some day. dave rapoza, brad rigney and marko durdjevic don't ref anatomy while drawing and they still get really accurate because they spent so much time memorizing all the muscles etc
04 Aug 23:55
--Someday shooting own human refs would be nice :D Then you get the exact position that you want, same goes for costumes <3
04 Aug 23:54
--i dont mind if you use naked people from google to ref anatomy or if you shoot your own ref, its just about fundamentals in that regard anyway :D
