That's what I figured Richie. I thought, once I move up to a 3d stage, I'll work with Blender until I can afford Maya, or possibly just trial it out and figure out the software.

Well Richie, if Maya is industry standards, then it's probably going to take him just a bit of time to catch up with the current price tag of Maya, though hehe.

then you are kind of stuck buddy its a lot of moving about in this industry if you want to work in studio, freelance you can do from home but it seems like a little limiting

03 Sep 07:54

Brian Hermelijn

Then again, I'm not into the 3D side, but the same idea paplies in my case.

03 Sep 07:54

Richie

--

well yeh you can transfer your skills easily between 3d programs, just like switching from PS to kitra or painter

I'm not in a position where I can leave where I'm living, and I don't expect I will be, so my work would have to be done through internet correspondence, if that's even possible. If not, then I guess I can forget it. ;)

Brian Hermelijn

Then again, everything is an investment nowadays.

03 Sep 07:53

Brian Hermelijn

Well I guess its gonna be an investment if one wants to do 3D :|

bookend what is it you want to do in a £D program?

03 Sep 07:51

appleseed00

--

it would also be worth looking into whether you want to do games or film because they are different techniques and use different programs and scripts etc

03 Sep 07:51

Richie

--

yep no such thing as on the job training anymore they expect you up and running asap

03 Sep 07:51

Hm, makes sense. I guess there's a high supply of artists these days.

so the companies can ask for whatever skills etc

03 Sep 07:50

appleseed00

you have to know the tools before you get the job, because the market is saturated

03 Sep 07:50

appleseed00

03 Sep 07:50

appleseed00

I mean, if I'm awesome (which I'm not yet, and won't be for a few years, I'm guessing), then they'd be like, "Ah, well, you're awesome. And at least you know blender, so it'll be easy to teach you maya. COME ON BOARD." The idealist in me says.. :D

03 Sep 07:50

appleseed00

--

i seen a few companies who want to use blender, you can get the educational version or use a trial or....

03 Sep 07:49
