--I think whatever works for you.
30 Aug 07:23
--Hopefully I'm not rude for changing the subject, but what would be better documenting progression, daily or weekly basis?
30 Aug 06:59
--He told me, "Well, I don't know much about this stuff... But, you. can. paint."
30 Aug 06:59
--The person hanging the paintings made it the focal point, and chit-chatting with my dad, said that he had to put the 'best' painting in the center. Well. My dad was all puffed up and so proud that I thought he'd cry.
30 Aug 06:58
--Art isn't known for being particularly lucrative. I know that my dad was against it, because he felt that it wasn't a secure thing... That is, until he saw my painting at the exhibit at the end of the year in that foundations course I took. ;)
30 Aug 06:57
--Well, I'm kind of sad to even suggest that any artist would be motivated by money.
30 Aug 06:55
--Jeff also mentioned about it on the stream last night, there is more to art than money.
30 Aug 06:53
--I'm sure it's more complex than that, but it all comes down to quality. And I've seen some really amazing anime/manga art, and really interesting, beautiful abstract art.
30 Aug 06:53
--Some artists are just getting by and not trying to get better, and don't care about how it looks, and just want money.
30 Aug 06:52
--I think it's all about what's being put into it. Some artists work really hard, and think really hard about what they're doing, and keep trying to get better, and make beautiful work.
30 Aug 06:51
--I don't think he's against abstract art, as an example-- I think I even read that he approves of it. It's just the level of thought and design, composition, colour-- What's going into this piece? You know? So, manga/anime is great as a field of artwork. But, again, the question is: Are they trying to get better, to attain a higher level of standard? Some do, some don't. :)
30 Aug 06:49
--Then again, there is certainly some anime creators that just has a serene quality to them, almost all of their shows. (Studio Ghibi)
30 Aug 06:48
--But I wonder how true that would be for fields such as manga/anime though.
30 Aug 06:45
--Here I've been reading Robert Pirsig's books which are all about quality. It's so funny how things tend to fall together according to a theme. The last two months for me has been 'Quality', haha.
30 Aug 06:44
--This is also aimed at people as a whole, though, in changing the objective standard for what makes art 'good quality'.
30 Aug 06:43
--And I think that this is relevant, no matter which field of art you go into-- Just my opinion. :)
30 Aug 06:42
--And I think that he's trying to encourage the importance of putting actual thought into what you create, and actually attempting to make beautiful, skillful work-- Always reaching and attaining a higher and higher level of skill and standard for yourself as an artist.
30 Aug 06:41
--Probably the video is targeted more towards the fine art realm, can't say anything in regards to that, since I don't have the ability to visit any kind of gallery, aside from write my own story what the outside is like through the internet, hehe.
30 Aug 06:41
--Well, I think it's more that modern art has become diluted because of well-meaning impressionists, and has become about 'self-expression', and 'anything can be art', even if there's very little to no skills or rules involved in the creation of the piece.
30 Aug 06:40
--Although, I think, that's also a matter of which field, since in the past you didn't have like concept art just to name one of them.
30 Aug 06:37
--I feel what the video is trying to say is, artists of this century aren't trying to evolve, rather repeating the same artworks of past times. That's what I got from the video.
