--I don't even know what my theme is. I'm hearing 'Gothic Art Neveau' a lot from viewers.

02 Aug 13:17
--I've done commissions successfully but I'm going off what the client wants and it's always not in my general theme, so making artwork for myself is what's important.
02 Aug 13:15
--I don't see myself working freelance any time soon - immediate goal is to finish art for print and go to festivals and markets, playing around with the scene. I've worked in markets before, with wine and food, but I've never been behind the table in Artist Alley.
02 Aug 13:13
--There was that card strategy game; a tarot set where the commissioners were indecisive of theme; two children's books (yes i can draw non-scary things) one was a weird parable and the guy just fell out of communication, the other actually wanted me to write the damn thing; a few roleplay games, creatures and characters. Nothing completed.
02 Aug 12:49
--True, true. You done a decent amount of freelance? I'm still trying to get my fundamentals up, but I'm looking to get into it within the next year.
02 Aug 12:45
--Troublesome I can handle - so many indecisive writers. Douchebaggery I cannot.
02 Aug 12:44
--I'm not hesitant with projects, I just make sure to be the one that promotes what I do on the project than rely on others. I like free or open projects, because there's less stress and obligation, more freedom. That's why when someone pull a dick move like that it's a real let down.
02 Aug 12:22
--Damn, that sucks. I've worked on a small indie game where we have one particular artist who can be troublesome. Not nearly as bad as what you said, but I think there's always going to be someone that's a pain in the ass.
02 Aug 11:35
--There's this amazing pencil artist with only a little colour or finished artwork experience and we, along with a number of other people made a nearly completed card game set. His work was the base for what other people worked on. There was no contract or anything, the project fell through, then he goes and posts the finished products as his own, no credit. It annoys me because his work was truly amazing - he just turned out to be an asshole after that so not going to do him the favour of mention
02 Aug 11:32
--I've conversed with said hot-chick/professionals that know they're exactly that and it's as shitty as it sounds.
02 Aug 11:13
--And the beginners joining the group fuel this, because they're in awe of what these pros are doing and give it hundreds if not thousands of likes. The group is like a hot chick that has no personality.
02 Aug 11:12
--I agree, I've been a part of Level Up for a little while and it's next to useless. Never get any worthwhile crits and the place is full of professionals simply trying to get free marketing for their work.
02 Aug 09:20
--Also when I quit this job next week to free up time for art it'll be 60-ish % your responsibility.
02 Aug 09:01
--I know CC helps everyone who participates, but I guess that's not really my dilemma atm. Thanks for your thoughts anyway, glad to see you guys get something out of it! my personal goal was to run CC for at least one year and I was just reevaluating that goal. And it did improve the buzz around here a tiny bit
02 Aug 08:59
--I second Jan. If it makes a difference, Amit, both you and Adam had some really helpful and influential advice for me. We learn a lot from what is entered in the challenge.
02 Aug 08:59
--LevelUp is fairly useless, for any but the most beginner work when it comes to crits. I agree, it's not about numbers, but I'd rather not put in 10 hours into something that only 5 people consistently get something out of. It's just not efficient. I'd rather charge to run a mentorship with that time if that becomes the case.
02 Aug 08:55
--level up for instance was a huge hype and like 100k people joined but there was almost no community going on and i doubt that a lot of people really got much out of it aside from the motivation. i'm glad that this forum isn't that at all.
02 Aug 08:53
--hm i don't need this to be a mass phenomenon anyway. if there's a small group that's continuously there and trying to get better then it's worth it already. this is how this forum started out, anyway
02 Aug 08:49
--I see. Lining up three schedules to find an hour or so of free time can be difficult. Keep it going though! the more good stuff comes outta here the more people will want to join! hopefully. . .
02 Aug 08:41
--It's more a motivation thing I suppose, and when we are getting less and less entries it makes it a bit sad really. I figure it's just the way with forums. They really are kinda dying in the art arena anyway if the pros will stay out in social media land, that's where everyone else will be
02 Aug 08:39
--technically nothing really. It does take a bit of time to do everything. All up it might be all up 5-10 hours a month each for Piotr and I since we've setup the system. So it's manageable. We've easily put in hundred+ hours in total. The biggest effort really is in running around after judges.
02 Aug 08:32
--@amit, what are the issues you're having keeping it up? just not enough entrants or followthrough or time?
02 Aug 08:31
--yeah, that was me for this last one, except I didn't even put together a WIP thread lol
02 Aug 08:25
--i get that, a lot of people get excited about a new challenge, put up some quick studies than don't come back to it until the end of the month, and you have to chastise them to keep working. not fun im sure. Maybe take more of a sink or swim approach?
