In short what I see most of is that 'traditional art' is promoted based on history or celebrity. Digital art promotes an artists skill and innovation.

Showcasing virtual artwork that can't exist in physical space.

Who hasn't had that "oh your an artist, can you draw me X for free because while I /could/ do it myself because art isn't difficult at all, I can't actually draw because I wasn't born with drawing talent and you were so it won't cost you any effort at all.. so free.."

Where I am art is quite prolific. We've an art and science museum and a gallery or modern art, a conservatoriums and art and film schools. You're right that they aren't vlued in the same way, but they all showcase any manner of artwork. Recently the powerhouse had a gallery celebrating digital games. A $2000 print of a geometric design features link zelda and gannon.

Art in general has a low perceived value unless it's historically significant

24 Aug 08:40

Olooriel

which is stupid, but still affects its perceived value

24 Aug 08:40

Olooriel

and on top of that, there's still plenty of people who don't know enough about the creative process of digital art to even consider it painting

I'm not saying that a digital print can't be high quality, that there isn't a fairly large span of values in prints, or even that the person printing it doesn't affect the quality and valueof the print. I am just saying that it is still not generally valued like a traditional painting

Put it this way, at best printing archival quality art prints is in my honest opinion equal if not of better calibre than a traditional painter that buys premixed paints instead of making one's own.

Disagree. Printing is not as clean and cosmetic as is first impression. If you put your image onto a usb and go to a touch screen at kmart and print out 100 copies then sure, instant post card. Printing in large format involves a lot of human adjustments to create exact colour and minimal bleeding. Sometimes ink is even laid by hand.

24 Aug 08:24

Richie

but it on glacée paper ;P

24 Aug 08:22

Olooriel

--

and it isn't generally valued as such

24 Aug 08:22

Olooriel

still, one print of a digital painting looks exactly like the next, and a limited edition is just an attempt to shorten the supply artificially to make something more valuable - which works of course, for a collector or such, but nevertheless, a modern digital print is not a unique piece of art

Might have been paint... might have been both or more than one artist. I don't know. I have a cold amd am abput to start a miserable day in customer service. I'm out.

Tgen there was that one guy who put his own blood into the ink so no one could copy it.

24 Aug 08:08

RottenPocket

Same goes for 3D printing. There is a lot of post-print treatment involved. Just because it's manufactured does not mean it is not entirely unique.

24 Aug 08:07

Then given the minute differences in the way ink has been applied even a single run of prints will have a signature identifier for each print.

Engraving plates involve a tonne more detail but can only run a limited number of prinys before the plate becomes useless.
