RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Mathias - 10-10-2012 Hi Isra, I'd like to put my name down for your class. I think perspective is important as it brings overall credibility to a piece. If the perspective of an image is off something will always seem wrong, even though it's just subtle. It helps to convey a sense of scale and distance and essentially turn a 2D image into a believable 3D scene. My current skill level is still very basic. I am however very interested in understanding perspective as I believe it will be a great help to improve. I've mainly been studying anatomy and doing simple sketches up till now. I work a full time job, but I really want to improve and I am willing to put in the hours it takes to make that happen, even if it means having to neglect other things for a while. If you want to see my portfolio I guess my little art blog is the closest you will get, but as I say, it's still very basic: http://mathjorgensen.blogspot.co.uk Thanks, -Mathias RE: From a cube to a cathedral - ImSkeptical - 10-10-2012 Update - Nevermind, don't pick me. I got lucky and was selected for brent's mentoring thing :D. I will try to follow along for this one though Isra xD. ------------------------------ I'd love turn cubes into cathedrals xD. Most things in the world have some element of symmetry. Because of this we tend to assume certain symmetries in forms that we observe. Learning perspective is important because it is learning how to control these symmetries, and thus learn to draw forms with more control and accuracy, and make the things we want to line up be seen by the viewer as lining up Hope that made sense? I feel i failed :(. Okay, 30 hours a week are too much beside high school. Then other people are better for the spot. Thanks anyway. It's a great opportunity for a lot of people. Guys, GO FOR IT! Perpsective is so freaking important in everything. Remember the assignments will be open to everyone as you can see in other courses, so in some way you'll be able to follow the course as well. Though only the selected ones get crits, I'd be more than happy if you post any practice you do on the class forum once it's up :) RE: From a cube to a cathedral - yochanan - 10-11-2012 This is awesome! I hadn't seen that someone was doing a perspective mentorship until now, but I would love to join this. I'm self-studying fulltime now and staying focused on perspective. I think perspective is important because the most important aspect of the technical abilities of any designer is to communicate their designs clearly so there won't be any confusion for the people who will be working off it later (and perspective is of course crucial in order to make drawings that are easy to understand). I have done simple perspective constructions off cubes, but never went through an actual course on perspective and I feel there is so a lot of basic things that I simply haven't really internalized. I often wonder why things aren't working and having someone more experienced around to help me out from time to time is something I've been looking for for a while! Here's an example of the kind of stuff I usually do nowadays. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/1404/perspective04.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img441/8682/perspective05.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9701/rendering03.jpg I have plenty of time to dedicate to perspective training (it's what I'm already doing) and would love for the opportunity to be mentored by you! RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Glasya - 10-11-2012 oh man i would love this so much!!!! i never had art lessons before :O , so having this is like a life line right now this would help me greatly !! Edit: the reason: Okay in my area we dont have these kind of classes , or any art classes in general , so this would IMMENSELY help me if my art skills advances i would be among the very few in my whole region who can digitally draw it would open so many doors ( every door actually ) thats why its important to me but why its important ? because without knowing perspective what ever you draw, be it a simple box to the complex cathedral it would come out all wrong :o So yeah, please consider me as a brave soul !! It may seem easy to read about but difficult to do. I need help and would love to be part of this. Thanks for doing this. http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-1453.html RE: From a cube to a cathedral - klungart - 10-14-2012 Hey Isra, I would like to sign up for this! I havn't done a lot of perspective studies at all, and having a commitment will definitely make me push myself harder. Perspective is important because it creates depth in your image and without depth the world would ennnd! RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Egbu - 10-14-2012 This sounds useful as perspective can be quite a hard topic to apply to paintings. Urmm my SB and Deviantart are in my signature, and why I think Perspective is important...urmmm I have no idea, but I do know when I look at an image with really well executed perspective it makes me feel fuzzy inside, and makes the image much more interesting. RE: From a cube to a cathedral - DorotheeRudolph - 10-15-2012 Hi Isra, as I've told you during your livestream, I would also like to apply for your mentor group, because in each painting I end up struggling with perspective issues. It always starts, that I find it difficult to decide upon a suitable point of view and horizon line. In my view by carefully planning perspective you decide if the viewer feels like a fly, like a human or like a giant regarding the scene. As some have already mentioned, with perspective you can display a scene as being close to the viewer or some parts as being far away. Therefore perspective is part of the fundamentals when it comes to art. Because I struggle so much applying it, it would be awesome to become part of your mentor group. :) Perspective is one of the issues in my firesword wip over in the paintover forum: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-1480.html My Crimson Dagger sketchbook: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-1479.html RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Jared2365 - 10-15-2012 PERSPECTIVE APPLIES TO EVERYTHING! That is why it is so important to me to be a part this mentoring class :) I honestly don't think one could ever be so good at perspective that he couldn't take time to get better or get more complex with it and take it to even greater heights. When it were to come to an end I will leave a better man and artist. If I am chosen, I will enter into it with great regard and respect for what I am learning and for who is teaching me, and I will not let you down Isra. Sincerely, Jared RE: From a cube to a cathedral - isra-ac - 10-15-2012 EDIT: Thanks Piotr for pointing out you didn't apply, I made the list before going to sleep after 30 hours up and....yeah, brain damage lol ----------------------------- Thanks everyone for applying!! Tonight at 10PM CET (my local time, you can check it here http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.com ) I will stream to use the random generator, pick the 3 brave souls, add comments to your answers and talk quickly about the program. This is the list of the people who applied, check if it's your name there and I didn't miss anyone. 1-Spitboi 2-AngeliquevdMee 3-Exodune 4-Doktordean-o 5-iCi 6-Sarmati 7-JonHop 8-DomSinkevic 9-Marcsampson 10-Mathias 11-Yochanan 12-Glasya 13-Vicluna 14-Klungart 15-Miles-E 16-DorotheeRudolph 17-Jared Thanks again, see you later tonight :) RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Piotr Jasielski - 10-15-2012 I actually didn't apply. I think there are people for whom this course could give more than myself. Either way I couldn't manage to take part in this course. Good luck anyway, Isra! RE: From a cube to a cathedral - JonHop - 10-16-2012 Cool, see you tonight Isra RE: From a cube to a cathedral - exodune - 10-16-2012 Alright, great! See you in tonight's stream Isra! RE: From a cube to a cathedral - isra-ac - 10-17-2012 Well, for those who don't know last night I streamed and selected the 3 brave souls: - Dom - Klungart - Marcsampson While I was able to contact the two first immediately, I sent a PM and an e-mail to Marc and didn't get any reply yet. Please Marc contact me within the next 48 hours or I will have to pick another person to start getting ready the classes. Remember any lack of interest means the replacement for another person. You can see the stream here, with the little big news of a 4th assignment critiqued each week http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4rkegTKPdc RE: From a cube to a cathedral - isra-ac - 10-19-2012 Since there's no reply from Marc, I just used the generator again over the original list, and the selected one is number 15, Miles-E, congratulations. RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Nagase - 10-19-2012 Hi Isra, I recently posted a link to all these mentoring projects on an Italian FB group, and a friend of mine would be very interested in this, but as you filled all the spots, I was wondering if it would be enough, or at least a good start, to follow it on Livestream. Are the videos related to your mentoring? thanks for any help and info you could give me. Paolo RE: From a cube to a cathedral - isra-ac - 10-21-2012 First class will be today, Sunday 21st at 2PM CET on http://livestream.com/isrartistic Nagase, thanks for your interest, in my livestream you will be able to find the classes (if the procaster doesn't crash) but mixed in the library with the streams I sometimes do totally unrelated to the mentorship. All the videos will be able on youtube, I think that will be an easier way to follow :) After the first class I will make the thread of the class and post there the assignments and videos. Hope that helps. RE: From a cube to a cathedral - Piotr Jasielski - 10-21-2012 I'd love to watch, but my flash can't update and I can't find a solution for that problem :/ Life is unfair |
