Crimson Inktober - Ursula Dorada - 09-16-2014 Hey guys! So, I'm sure you guys have heard of Inktober! It's a fun, one-a-day style project, where we aim to do at least one sketch in inks for the whole of October. It's getting bigger every year, and it's a real good thing to spread on your social media during the time. Also, not a lot of people on CD focus on inks/line drawings, it's an awesome opportunity to get out of our comfort zone and learn a new media in the process! Here is the link to the official starter of the project, Jake Parker: http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober The rules are simple: - You HAVE yo use inks in some way or form; - You may have a underlying sketch; - Other media are acceptable as long as your lines and ink and there and clearly visible! So let's start! I have been warming up since I haven't dealt with lines in a long time. Feel free to join! Let's rock this :) RE: Crimson Inktober - smrr - 09-17-2014 So excited for this! \_( ^ 3^)/ Question: is it traditional inks only or can we just use decent inking brushes in PS/sketchbook pro, etc? RE: Crimson Inktober - Ursula Dorada - 09-17-2014 I have seen people doing it digitally Smrr. Focus on the thick black lines and we should be good! Here is what I have been up to: RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-17-2014 Whoa, okay mine will be a lot simpler than yours, Ursula. Also, never heard of Inktober until now. I've heard of 24 hour comic day though. [edit] RE: Crimson Inktober - JonHop - 09-17-2014 cool stuff guys, will def take part in this in october as have been doing lots of work directly in ink in my traditional sketchbook anyway. :D. RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-18-2014 I'm cheating by doing this ink drawing for Inktober and making it a sketch for c.chow_002.... now that "clean" line art is scanned for c.chow, will prob ink it in fully later when have time. RE: Crimson Inktober - smrr - 09-18-2014 Great job everyone! :D Although I was unable to get my hands on some traditional inks - I used PS but made sure I didn't use any tools other than the brush, rotate and eraser tool (for erasing the under drawing). Used a recent scanned sketch and went from there. Inking is suuuuuper fun <3 <3 ! RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-19-2014 Setting sun: RE: Crimson Inktober - Ursula Dorada - 09-20-2014 Couple more! This ink thing is very tricky RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-23-2014 RE: Crimson Inktober - Jaik - 09-23-2014 Hell yeah, this would be a good way to start a new sketchbook.. Some nice physical inking. Could you guys give me a couple of links to some really sweet guys to study? *Sorry for the no art part* RE: Crimson Inktober - Ursula Dorada - 09-24-2014 oooh lots of ink love to go around: If more into the figurative side, Mike Deodato has some gorgeous pieces, very high contrast: http://mikedeodatojr.tumblr.com/post/98231151201/brianmichaelbendis-mike-deodato-jr-in-black There is some High profile DC inkers which I have been looking too. Here is Joe Prado: http://joeprado2010.deviantart.com/gallery/ If you're into more scribbly lines, Jaw Cooper has some AMAZING pieces: http://instagram.com/jawcooper There is also Takehiko Inue, which I don't know his site but google images does a good job. He is a brush master :o https://www.google.com.br/search?q=Takehiko+Inoue&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=lMghVPCSDovJgwT1hIDAAQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1647&bih=1035#tbm=isch&q=takehiko%20inoue%20vagabond%20art&revid=1463183913&imgdii=_ Oh! There is also Yoji Shinkawa, concept artist for metal gear solid series. Again, no direct site, but daaamn check this: https://www.google.com.br/search?q=Yoji+Shinkawa&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=XskhVLrGJtPOggTXxIG4AQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1647&bih=1035 There is a TON more, but since I'm only starting, it's hard to filter. These are solid starting points though! RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-24-2014 Usually when I hear ink, I think of the far east ink painting and caligraphy, which I like a lot anyway, so I just study that. Some mangaka incorporate that into their manga styles, like the ones Sula linked. RE: Crimson Inktober - Amit Dutta - 09-24-2014 Nice stuff people :) First art thing I've posted online in 6 months! Doodled in pen during a meeting. RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-25-2014 Welcome back MB!!! sorry no ink these 2 days. RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-26-2014 The horse would probably stand out better and the image look better without any background.... Oh well, such is ink on paper. No going back fixing, only forward. RE: Crimson Inktober - Ursula Dorada - 09-26-2014 It looks cools as is Meat :D Onwards! Welcome back MB, let's do a month long! *cheers* Here, chalk brush, pressure set to size only, 90% opacity 70% flow gives it a nice natural feel. RE: Crimson Inktober - meat - 09-27-2014 This was meant to be a lion's face, but I already did the dry brush = mane trick yesterday, so doing it again today felt kind of lame. 4 hours later... RE: Crimson Inktober - Jonesoda - 09-27-2014 Pretty quick pen doodle, wanted to uploaded something though. Next one sha'll be cleaner :) RE: Crimson Inktober - Jaik - 09-27-2014 Wow inking is hard as hell... No idea what I am doing so I wanted to get some prac in before inktober starts... |
