Crimson Inktober

Hey guys!
So, I'm sure you guys have heard of Inktober! It's a fun, one-a-day style project, where we aim to do at least one sketch in inks for the whole of October. It's getting bigger every year, and it's a real good thing to spread on your social media during the time.

Also, not a lot of people on CD focus on inks/line drawings, it's an awesome opportunity to get out of our comfort zone and learn a new media in the process!

Here is the link to the official starter of the project, Jake Parker: http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober

The rules are simple:
- You HAVE yo use inks in some way or form;
- You may have a underlying sketch;
- Other media are acceptable as long as your lines and ink and there and clearly visible!

So let's start! I have been warming up since I haven't dealt with lines in a long time.

Feel free to join! Let's rock this :)

So excited for this! \_( ^ 3^)/
Question: is it traditional inks only or can we just use decent inking brushes in PS/sketchbook pro, etc?

I have seen people doing it digitally Smrr. Focus on the thick black lines and we should be good!

Here is what I have been up to:

Whoa, okay mine will be a lot simpler than yours, Ursula. Also, never heard of Inktober until now. I've heard of 24 hour comic day though.

I'm cheating by doing this ink drawing for Inktober and making it a sketch for c.chow_002.... now that "clean" line art is scanned for c.chow, will prob ink it in fully later when have time.

Great job everyone! :D
Although I was unable to get my hands on some traditional inks - I used PS but made sure I didn't use any tools other than the brush, rotate and eraser tool (for erasing the under drawing).
Used a recent scanned sketch and went from there.

Inking is suuuuuper fun <3 <3 !

oooh lots of ink love to go around:

If more into the figurative side, Mike Deodato has some gorgeous pieces, very high contrast: http://mikedeodatojr.tumblr.com/post/982...r-in-black

There is some High profile DC inkers which I have been looking too. Here is Joe Prado: http://joeprado2010.deviantart.com/gallery/

If you're into more scribbly lines, Jaw Cooper has some AMAZING pieces: http://instagram.com/jawcooper

There is also Takehiko Inue, which I don't know his site but google images does a good job. He is a brush master :o

Oh! There is also Yoji Shinkawa, concept artist for metal gear solid series. Again, no direct site, but daaamn check this:

There is a TON more, but since I'm only starting, it's hard to filter. These are solid starting points though!

Usually when I hear ink, I think of the far east ink painting and caligraphy, which I like a lot anyway, so I just study that. Some mangaka incorporate that into their manga styles, like the ones Sula linked.

The horse would probably stand out better and the image look better without any background.... Oh well, such is ink on paper. No going back fixing, only forward.

Welcome back MB, let's do a month long! *cheers*

Here, chalk brush, pressure set to size only, 90% opacity 70% flow gives it a nice natural feel.

This was meant to be a lion's face, but I already did the dry brush = mane trick yesterday, so doing it again today felt kind of lame. 4 hours later...
