Oh the idea is pretty cool, I really like it. I think the character in sketch and BW works better than the smaller one in color (although I'd move it to lef or righ so he wouldn't be exactly in the line with the colum behind), but you may test some other placements. Keep this up!

That sketch with the tree is very promising! I think I would make the roots longer.
