Earth Giant Process and WIPs
#1
I'd like to post my wips and progress for any general crit or just for interest. The brief was for an "Earth Giant" ala the greek Titans or God of War etc. Please fire away if you see things that might help. Cheers!!

Some thumbs. Probably about an hour worth of work to this stage.

I could have picked pretty much any, but I found out I was naturally wanting to detail up the top left, so I decided to go with it. Starting to detail up a value sketch. Haven't really settled or thought about the creature design too much at this stage. Between 2 and 3 hours in at this point.

As a break I decided to quickly mess around with a rough colour overlay. Need to do a few more iterations before I decide on a scheme. This has also highlighted to me that I need to start refining the whole comp and value scheme and designing the giant more as it still needs a lot of work! 3.5 hours work.

Any comments requested and appreciated !! :)

Thanks mate...it's proving quite hard making something original out of a big piece of walking land...but yeah will see what I dredge up. Should probably do some separate studies really.

Nice to see some new work from you A, I can't see anything wrong with this piece but I know it'll look good when you're done with it. I did however, tried to do a quick paintover just to see where I would take this piece if I was at this stage. Hope it is of some help. I think by adding another light source and maybe a character, you can add some more elements to play around with. Maybe this big monster follows light and destroys anything with warm colours. Could be something to do with him being from the cold and hating anything that destroys his peace. You can tell what he's going for next. Either ways, great composition and can't wait to see it finished. :)

Love this idea, and the addition of warm accents. I'm working on the creature design now, but once that's a bit more settled, Imma totally gonna swipe your idea and run with it.
Thanks GD, I appreciate the time! ;)

Hey very quickly :
As you said, the values need a bit of work, the moon is the only light source so we'd see the golem in a much more silhouetted way (if I can say it that way :p)
that's what I'm thinking when I see the moonlight backlighting it :

How the shadow's constructed :

I also added more depth receding the right arm and leg with atmospheric perspective

Hope it helps!

Thanks dude, that shadow breakdown was really useful. I stopped working on this one but if I get back to it I'll be sure to work that in. I was intending on having some secondary light eventually from the towers or something. Sweet.

btw you've misspelled "Resources" on your folio site...thought you'd probably wanna know :)
