First of all you are doing good job with studying and I really like what you did with your dragon, you should repaint it one day and finish it- it was a great idea. I would suggest you to work on the edges and coloring. I used to do something similar as you few months ago. Maybe you should start with applying basic color,and than adding tone variation depending of light-and you won't get the rough feeling between two colors. Also, to control your edges you can use lasso tool and fill inside it-there you will get sharp edges and nice definition of basic color to work with it after it. Keep up with great work :D And I'm looking forward seeing your progress. Have fun^^
