Posting some stuff over from my summer project thing since that area is a bit dead really. I mentioned my final major project before and I'm actually hoping to take this world concept thing further so that I can bring it into 3D and work on it for university, which would be so much fun. Very exciting stuff.

Awesome! That last piece came out great, really nice colours. And I love the chandelier lol, not sure I'd have the patience for that ;)

I feel like a fraud Jake, I've got several compliments on that chandelier when it's actually just a photo texture that I heavily edited. Shhhhhh.
I'm gonna duplicate my stuff from my summer pitch over onto here from now on. Please let me know which designs you like the best!

Haha, sneaky. Well, it looks cool either way, and at least you didn't have to paint it lol, can't imagine how painful that'd be. Summer pitch stuff looks cool. in the last post 4, 6 and 8 are probably my favourite. Although I like the lower body silhouette of 7 best I think. Not sure if that helps :)

Thank you Jake! Hopefully I'll have a finalised idea soon :D
I've been trying to have a more solid process to gesture drawing, as well as a few sketches -

Uni is back again! Really excited for the next project - I'm gonna try hand painting all of my textures which is new and scary but the end result is awesome. I'll be posting concepts of my rooftop project soon.
For now, here's a WIP for Witches and a one hour speedie challenge thing.

Hey guys! So I've just started my rooftop project at uni and I'm really excited about it. I've been massively inspired by the indie game Airborn and I'm hoping to create a hand painted weather tower in 3D. Fingers crossed it goes to plan.

Since the Summer Pitch thread is totally dead I'm gonna chuck all my dev stuff here (as well as some other things) -

Good stuff going on in here! I like your unique approach as a concept artist. The studies will beget more fundamental accuracy for you, but I wouldn't worry too much about the creative aspect, as you're already tapping into it.
Also, those look like some pretty sweet stock photo sets, do you have them uploaded anywhere at a higher res?

I'll probably have a lot more of them on my blog tonight actually :) Thank you!

Oh good lord it's been a while.
I need a sketchbook again, mostly since I've got a job now and my time is pretty thin on the ground. With this in mind, I really want to take advantage of the time I DO have to pushing myself forward, and I've been really missing the crit element to my work since leaving university. It's slightly horrifying that it's three years since I started this, and I really need to take myself forward! I guess it's a plus I've moved to a part of the country where I know absolutely no-one and thus can devote all my time to this. Let's study! Seriously, crit would be amazing. I just want to learn as much as possible!

Oo nice texture work! In terms of crits, the biggest crit I would have of the last enviro is that it doesn't feel like it has a definite point of interest. Maybe if those crisscrossing rocks in the midground were larger to emphasize their grandness? Also something I noticed about your blue skies in your environments: In nature, there is almost always a gradient of blue in the sky. It'll get lighter near the horizon and darker and more saturated as it reaches the highest point in the sky (but lighter around where the sun is). I think it has to do with atmospheric perspective and the angle of the light, and it helps that illusion of depth in illustration I think.
