some more stuff I did today

2h, a churchtower in Freiburg, Germany, my hometown. REPRESENTING!

2.5 h, more of a "rendering-shape" practice, but what can be better to render, than something else you wanna learn, right right?

40min, speedpaint of a trap-door spider. I have tried another technique on this one: 1. blocking in the silhouette with a hard round brush, 2. with a soft round and an clipping mask putting in the colors, 3. adding some soft and some hard edged highlights, 4. working in details.

As allways, crits and comments are more than welcome.

Cheers,
Flo

I tried another environment. More or less a speedpainting (3h) and I used a photograph as the source for the colors.

Did this one from scratch. Tested another approach, where you put values first and then apply colors on a soft light layer. 3h

Did this for Sarah, trying a watercolor-technique in ps. pretty relaxing, I gotta say.

Cheers,
Flo

hey folks,

I have an unfinished version of this around since a couple of months. Finally got to work on it, which to me is a good way to learn 1) rendering 2) anatomy 3) using textures.

As you can see, I am not that far into the painting, but since I have to stop now, I want to get some feedback of you guys.

Please tell me even the most obvious errors I am doing, so I can fix them and grow artistically.

@kidult: thanks, mate. Yeah, that's what I am trying to do :)

some heads and a study too.

I really want to get my anatomy better, humans are still something I am not very good at. Especially if they have to be beautiful^^

Cheers,
Flo

Edit: it physically hurts, to have those 2 messed up heads up here. But they will be good to look at when I am actually good at picturing humans.

Wonderful work. My only advice is contrast. You need to push your value ranges a little more i did a very quick paint over for your work to help explain what im talking about. I hope i didn't offend you in any way by doing this. Hope it helps.

hey M-rashart,

thanks for dropping by, no I am not offended at all. In fact I appreciate every comment and crit I get. I will definetly try to get a better value range, my work seems way to flat most of the times, so I got to work on that.

I have to get better with anatomy and foreshortening. So I did a study of a woman and turned it a little. That was me being outside my comfortzone. ^^

as allways, any crits and comments are welcome.

cheers,
flo

Hey folks,

just some studies and I worked some more on the parasited dude. atm I am not to happy with the pose, I have to avoid doing sideviews and force myself to do more interesting poses.

to the right on the picture with the zombie are some studies, one of them is pretty nasty (meaning the shown subject matter) that's why I left it small.

more to come shortly,

cheers,
flo

hey poyo,

feels really good to inspire someone, much appreciated :D yeah keep your studies up! but really the best advice I can give on studies is: do it slowly and really pay attention. What worked for me was keeping the opacity on 100% and really try to make every stroke count. That's also good to practice brush efficiency. As long as one doesn't mindlessly copy the image, that's good.

I realize that I haven't updated in a while, so here is the accumulated stuff.
Cheers,
Flo

hey folks,

I was reading up on anatomy and doing studies and sketches and stuff, ya know?
Anyways, I am reading through the anatomybook by Michael Hampton and so far I really like it, does anyone have read it too? I would be really interested in your opinions.

@ dwalkerart: thanks a lot, mate. Much appreciated :) personally I am not happy with my anatomy skills, especially my poses are boring and I am not happy with my lines in general. does anyone has any tips on that? I am doing gesture drawings and line exercises, maybe it will be better in month or two. ^^

Cheers,
Flo
