I think it's getting there! Maybe the skull could be a little more square shaped to reflect mayan carving conforming to a square a lot of the time. You definitely have that in the handle and around the skull, but you could push it more in the skull shape so that the aesthetic really reads to the viewer.
I also read that the Maya used a lot of Jade in their artwork, it's really common in their jewelry. Maybe that could be an even better choice for the eyes! Emeralds, I don't know, they probably had emeralds as well but I definitely think emeralds are more strongly associated with the Inca in Peru. The reference you show, I'm not like an archaeologist or anything but that looks like it could be an Incan thing, but I could be wrong honestly. Assuming you specifically want it to be 'Mayan' and not something more general.
