Honestly, I think Loomis is overrated. When I was studying artistic anatomy my teachers never mentioned Loomis but what they did mention were experts like Robert Beverly Hale and William Rimmer. For photo reference and diagrams my old professors always mentioned Muybridge and Goldfinger. E. Goldfinger's book on Human Anatomy for Artists is perhaps the gold standard when it comes to instruction on artistic anatomy. I'm not sure why no one ever mentions Jeseph Sheppard. His book on anatomy is far better than anything Loomis has produced. I had to do a google search on Loomis because I was curious about all this praise for him and I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about--he's really not a great teacher like Sheppard, Rimmer or Hale are.
