Great stuff going on here - really interesting to see all the extra work that went on behind the scenes for your inktober comics too, you're really focused.
I hadn't really thought much about the squirrel not working, to me it kinda read pretty well but I can see how it might seem out of place if the initial setting looks more like an indoor rink, although if the aim is to throw in the twist, it kinda works either way.
Only thing I could suggest is you set the scene as it is in the last panel, so a natural setting, but leave everything else as it is, so it looks like they're skating together on a lake in the initial frames, rather than leaving the background so clean, then the twist would still work without the dramatic change of setting?
