Heya, great idea doing illustrations from books, do you find it gives you plenty of ideas?
I can see you push towards defining your shapes and details more, keep practicing! Also good to consider, how definition should fade away/grow stronger along edges .
Its like line weight, if you have a consistently sharp edge all along the silhouette, it starts to look like an outline. So try and experiment and see where you can define and where you can fade.
