I've been thinking about getting into comics/animation too and I stumbled upon this website. It has a shit ton of tips and tricks.
That horse run cycle looks more like a canine run cycle. Maybe you could try looking up some horse running picture sequences on the net - it's a bit easier to observe frame-by-frame, at least for me and at this point in my studies.
