I agree, having a basic knowledge in historical clothing and armoury helps a lot - I have to admit, though, that I know more practical stuff from doing LARP than from my studies, but learning about these things in general helps a lot with practicable and plausible design. I only managed to do one study today, too much client work D: I figured I have to do more drapery, the dress part took me way too long.
