Grayscale to color
#21
Hey guys,

thanks for keeping helping me. It is always great to see someone wrote a comment or gave a crit.

I changed her pose to get a more fluid "cross" as MannUp puts it. Is that something you made up or learned somewhere? it seems like a quite helpful concept to follow.

I applied some adjustment layers (saturation/brightness, contrast) and smart filters (smart blur) to make the face, shoulders and hand pop more. also i tried to get a better feeling of spacing and overlapping in it by make the forms that are overlapped blurry at the cross sections. Mr Gurney can explain it better than me: Color and Light p. 140 ff. ^^

@monkey: I personally like the applibot stuff, but that is just a matter of taste. but I also like monet and the impressionists. with this piece i learned a lot already and I definitely want to look more into acrylics and oil.

In the next step I will go over it and blur some parts up more. but for now I cant keep working because my scratch-disks are full. that sucks. I have to clean up my pc ^^

cheers,
flo

Yeah man, that is totally a preference thing so don't let me hold ya back :) I personally think it's harder to make looser stuff feel solid and there is more skill involved in great simplification and abstraction than there is in super tight rendering. Again totally personal view :D

That focal stuff you've done is working very very nicely. Couple of things. The desaturation of the rest of the figure now stands in pretty stark contrast to the focal pont so maybe just a touch more of a transitional area between would help. Applibot gets their artists to render the f*ck out of the background too, so make that super tight as well if that's what you're gunning for. Keep pushing it man!
