Hey man, I really liked your final <3 really a creepy-ass sight to behold
I thin if you fully committed to your values in light&dark areas it really would've made your image pop!
I did a quick thing:
I adjusted levels firstly to lighten your darks and darken your lights. Hard round brush, went in and put in shadows, lights.
Then catered for readability. Checkout "The Windmill Principle" by James Gurney
Foreground elements needed s'more dets & shadow emphasis
Colour balance to create cohesion
