Klinck's sketchbook

Nice, really inspiring work! I love the way you draw the mecha-girls. If you don't mind me asking about your process, do you use photo ref for the robotic details or just sketch them from your visual library?

Thanks, I don't usually use references for robotic parts

Fabulous lines and rendering Klinck! Are these your own Original Characters?

I see that you mentioned ctrlpaint.com - did you study much from there? Matt Kohr is awesome!

Looking forward to more :).

Thanks, most of these are original characters. I learned from ctrlpaint a lot when I started using tablet

Wow, major props to that! I find that really impressive cause I pretty much have to use reference for all of my finished/detailed work.

Also I'm wondering if the robot-girl was was traditional, digital, or both? It looks a lot like traditional to me. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to learn how to do finished drawings/shading using traditional tools, and I find it really hard to figure out how to make polished drawings like that with lots of details look clean and polished. Any insight you could give into your process would be really appreciated :)

(Also, I don't mean to be annoying with my questions. Please ignore if it is.)

Some of these are drawn in sketchbook with a pencil, then I take a photo with a phone and finish in PS.

Amazing, that last one is a real treat to look at! The detail work is really beautiful, but not over-detailed. I really love your design ideas overall and there is great execution/fundamentals to back them. Looking forward to see more from you!

Nice paintings! I love the pointy nose red dude. The way you do metal is really cool. Kind of a weird thing to notice, but I like how you always draw nice hands and feet.

Great as always, I like how you did the green cloak, as an out of this world material!
