So, I’m without a tablet. All I’ve got at my disposal are a set of mech. pencils, a beginners’ set of Crayola watercolors, post-its and a sketchbook.
I’ve got a vision in mind for the sort of work I’d like to make, but lack the means at present to bring that to life. The long-term goal is to get a career as a comic book artist. I have some ambitions to do things a little differently (mostly with how interior comic art is colored/painted), so I might go for a career as a colorist, but ideally, I want to do all the art. I want to find a middle ground between the solid/tangible/dynamic feel of Dave’s “painterly”, realistic technique and the more exaggerated/energetic stylized technique with which we’re most familiar in the contemporary comic book.
For now, I’m going to get things started with some rough/basic sketches on post-its to jot down the idea for images I’d very much like to push further, and we’ll go from there!
Thanks for joining me!

Quote:Pretty much most of the above re: my artistic ambitions remain unchanged, only in the years since first starting this thread, I’ve acquired finally the tools & means necessary for the sort’a work I’ve always wanted to be doin.
So that’s what I’ll be doin
I’ve got a workin stream setup, now. I’ll do most o'that over on Youtube (@ my OG DeviantArt handle, "Watemon") & maybe also on Facebook; I’m nowhere near where Dave was whenever he’d first started broadcasting his studies & stuff & I ain't aimin, necessarily, to be where he was nor go that route, myself
But his steadfast dedication has always been an inspiration since first comin across his livestream back in 2008, and I’d like to try channeling that commitment to showin up & gettin to work. I can't say how I'll be doin all that for myself re: my own ambitions, but I'll do what I can to keep it movin, to focus forward, show up & keep pushin towards somethin' worthwhile
I'm still on DeviantArt @Watemon, I ain't posted there in a minute, but I have reason to get back to it, and I'll try keepin this space updated as well, see about followin' back in the footsteps & legacy o'this group & the principles by which Dave & Dan would first catalyze this movement
Dave referred to it as "living the vital life"–
The vital life vitalizes
I've been needin' some o'that in my own life. Hadn't known how to find any o'that or get my back to it, but I've always been walkin that path. So here I go, on my way, traversin' the long & winding road...
