I've been away for sometime working on a TV project, but trying to get back in the swing of just drawing (for fun). Always found it stressful, but trying to just 'go with the flow'. I was thinking of studying illustration at one point, but the unis near me don't focus on the kind of art I want, thus 'autodidactic' route that many wanna be comic artists and/or concept art go through. Would love an actual IRL group, especially to get to grips with digital, but at least this still exists.Thank you! It's super cool that you're doing something for tv. I'd like to hear about it if you wanted to share any details. With drawing, while it's good to try a little of everything, I think the best results are from working on subjects you love.
You should totally start a sketchbook thread.
There's a lot to learn with illustration and I still feel like I've only scratched the surface. I've been reading one of James Gurney's books, Imaginative Realism. It has a lot of really good info and plenty of things I never know about. He's had a very long career as an illustrator. He has a blog up too, if you're looking for more sources to learn from.
