Its weird how dynamic your poses are but when it comes to a finished piece, it's just a straight line up and down for the gesture. I'd reccomend instead of doing a long illustration, trying to make a good figure posed with a good gesture and make sure all the forms read; That'll get you better much faster.
Trust me if you go through like the first 15 or so pages of my SB alot of my practices were just struggling to paint a face in 3/4's and wasting a lot of time with the transform tool and realigning proportions. It's time much better spent getting a good drawing... But that being said, i know that 3/4 portait is TUUUUUFFFF but you can learn much faster if you skip the painting phase and try to get the best line drawing you can, the planes will do the rest of the work if you understand them in line!
