need help with values and composition
#1
Hey fellow awesome people

I'm in the process of painting this musketeer dude kicking ass,

but it feels like I'm missing and over-thinking things.
So I'm here to get a nice honest second opinion

First of all values then composition and proportions that's my main concern
but any input would be awesome

u know what they say 200 heads is better than one
thanks

Hey Raymond, how´re doing man?

Great idea you had there.

I´d like to help you to improve that illustration, but at first, I might say that I no pro, ok? We are at the same level of skills. A few thing comes to my mind when I look at your image, like:

1. Hey, that´s cool!
2. Something on the proportions may be tweaked
3. I´m not sure about the mechanics of character´s poses
- it´s not expressing the action on the scene
4. I think perspective might a little off
- that guy in first plane should be bigger, since he´s closer to camera
- that building on the background seems to be as huge as a castle

5. That folds and wrinkles are not working right
6. Where´s the light coming from? Is it day, is it night?

So, I´m posting some articles from professional artists to help you on those subjects.

These are about values and composition

Muddy Colors - Composition basics: value structure

Muddy Colors - Composition basics: implied line

Muddy Colors - Things about planning pictures

And here you can find some references for the clothes:

Marcus J. Ranum - Stock at Deviantart (be aware of nudity)

This one is also about clothes:

Selwy - Clothes tutorial

Good luck mate and keep up the good work.

Cheers!
