ey man that is one pretty photo! Well, i hate to criticize ya all the time but since you left the reference I figured I might as well. Her boobs are too high up, they in your picture are starting at the collar bone, when there is a muscle there called the pectoralis, and the boob attatches to the bottom of the pec, you can see this on really skinny women. The legs in both the thigh area and the calf are too short, like the thigh is almost half as long as it needs to be.
I feel like you use a rigid formula for drawing faces, with like the wide cheekbone, her face, just looks kind of like a mummy or something, like an undead creature lol. I'm not trying to be a dick lol, uuh her hip bone is practically touching her ribcage and her bicep is too short, and she's missing a deltoid muscle. The colors are okay i suppose, but the proportions is something you should pay attention to on this stuff, maybe you did it quite fast, but remember you learn more by getting more correct in a study.
It could be a good challenge to try and get this image to match the photo as close as you can get, even if it takes days or weeks. That would teach you sooooo much stuff about painting that you're not getting it would be insane. I mean like painting every little texture as close as you can get it with every blur and nook and cranny, I'd even help you do it lol. But you know it's all up to you, do what ya feel is right

Study a day, day 2. ^_^
Fedodika: Heheheh, man oh man, relax and chill, this is some critique you gave me. :D You should know by now that I can draw anatomy pretty well, at least for my standards. I know you check my pages, so look at that girl with crows and graves around her, or go to page 2 of this sketchbook. Similar pose, isn't? xD Anatomy was not my goal in this study (it was on page 2 of this sketchbook, so check em out, I guess they went pretty well, cause none critiqued me xD), and I think we have different meanings of a 'study' so let me explain mine.
I set myself a specific goal and go with it in the time available to me. My goal with those studies is to improve my workflow efficiency, brushwork and overall ability to PAINT ONLY WHAT IS NECESSARY to create a feeling that I want to express. I think I did just that with yesterday's study and even more so with the one I did today, but judge for yourself. You may ask - so why this study had such poor anatomy etc, compared to the ones before? Well, the difference lies in time - 2 h vs. 20+ h. Tho of course I agree, i could've done this better, and I will in time. ;)
And I don't think it would be a good idea to copy it pixel for pixel, it's not supposed to be a copy. As I said it's not my goal. ;) I did just that in the year before, and one can learn a whole lot as you said, but now I know I need something like this, so I'm doing it. :D Thanks anyway, today I was super careful to make her anatomy right, tho it wasn't my intention to copy it exactly. Cheers, mate. ;)

The studies are looking great, David! Your edge control is getting very good as well. There's a massive progression in a short amount of time, so keep them up :)
Are you still doing work from imagination? I think it's something we all need to do a lot more, haha.

Sup David, the problems I'm seeing in your art is lack of construction, specially when put into more complex perspective and values, I would suggest to do a lot of iterative construction drawings of anatomy and anatomy in really wierd perspectives from imagination, also still lifes can help with both of those, first trying to construct the scene and then painting the light. I would try to avoid photos for a while and just paint from life. Just my opinion though. Keep going and improving!

Another dose of daily studies, this time studying Stephan Sinding, Auguste Rodin and James Pradier and then some random redhead goddess, because hair, because it's light and because it's no STONE. ^_^ More to come.
Chubbycat: Thanks, and yes, I do, but not sketches - fullblown pieces that take all of my time. :D I'm finishing one, so I'll post it sometime later today or tomorrow. ;)
Fedodika: OHMYGODDDNOOOOOOOOOPLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEE HARDER! FASTER!! STRONGER!!! PS. I'm doing it alright! ;)
Pinshivic: You're absolutely right. I'm reading Schmid's Alla Prima now, as I said I would, and trying to apply it. He's saying the opposite of you, meaning - screw what you know or think you know, paint what you see and only that! Will do some of the things you mentioned (because I like to invent stuff from time to time), for sure, it's good practice, so thank you and cheers. ;)

Here's my recent project that I've been working on. I'm fairly happy with it, I think I couldn't have painted it a month before without those studies. It's based on a wonderful sculpture by Stephan Sinding's.
Hozure: Ballin', ballin'... Just ballin' man! Nah, I dunno, I just started to paint more in a hmm... focused kind of way? If I start to wander around and my attention is somewhere far away, I take a break and get back to it when I'm in the flow again. But I don't wait for 'the right state of mind', I just make myself feel it. If that makes any sense? ^_^ PS. Look who's talking, you badass you. :D

Another test for my skills after a month of studies. I left it in black and white stage months ago and had no idea how to finish it - until recently. Somehow I really dig the composition of this. Though... I'm still not that happy with it, but hey, let it go, let it goo... ^_^ More to come. ;)
