Hey, Lapatschka, welcome to the crazy art train! :-) You are into Giger, that's cool. Love his stuff. The fundamentals are really important–you are right to focus on those. But don't forget to draw just for fun as well. I recommend you learn a bit of perspective, it will add a lot of 3d goodness to your work! Perspective for Comic Book Artists by David Chelsea is the best book I've found on the subject, and Scott Robertson's Gnomon vid is super awesome.
