I can share some zooming technique I developed over the few years of working in Photoshop. It's so comfortable for me I can't imagine it now doing any other way. Maybe someone will find it helpful.
QuickZoom
For "Zooming in" I got "Ctrl+Space" assigned in place of middle button in my Wacom pen. This way I can get to the portion of the image I want with single drag.
Comfortable "Zooming out" was tricky part but I developed method to make it fast. I found a script that makes image switch to specified zoom level (25%, 33% etc). I have two such scripts assigned to keyboard shortcuts - "Ctrl+." and "Ctrl+,". These are keys near the commonly used Alt key for color picker so I often have my non-drawing hand in that area.
This way I can jump straight into what I want to paint and when I want to see whole image fast in small size, I press the hotkeys.
Here's the link for the scripts. (You can edit them in notepad and change the zoom level to your own)
