Haha wow, that sounds like you're quite far out there! On the other hand, that also means less distraction through the internet, right?
Nice figure drawings, especially since they're not referenced... a good skill to practice.
For photo real still life etc I'd suggest starting with something reeally simple or easy, fruit maybe, just to test it out .. then you can go more complex if you want.
Regarding your questions, workflow-wise... just experiment, start with doing lots of thumbnails, thinking of composition and values... then do some thumbnails for colors and think about your light source, if you want it to look cool, warm, what mood ... then put it all together in the final piece! But in the beginning it is easier to focus on every aspect separately.
