Another study, trying to learn form. Its quite off this one so I need to spend more time on form. Practise, practise and practise.

@Forrestimel- Thanks bro, appreciate that and you have a really nice gallery. Keep it up!

One of my weakness is drawing cylindrical shapes. So to practise drawing some shapes I taped a ceramic cup to my camera stand and made my own mini hanger. Then by rotating the cup an inch at a time I drew some possible angles. Mostly ref but some from memory, just to solidify what I've learned.

Need to do more of these.

I love Riley's method of constructing the face and tried that yesterday.

And faces drawn from memory this morning using the method I learnt yesterday:

60 second and 2 minutes figure sketches and then some drawn from memory. Its good to find out where you're going wrong. I have not drawn enough figures from memory. Weakness spotted and flagged!

Hey man, it's nice to see you working hard in here. I have to say I love some of the faces you did here on your last post, but you really need to work more on their lips.
As for perspectives, you're not there yet, try using a ruler at first, until you get the feel of it. Make sure every line hits the focal point. Also, there is a way of constructing an ellipse as well, by placing it inside a square, even in perspective. So be sure to use that too.
Back when I was in high school we had a method of projecting a top view of a house/building into perspective, so try finding similar exercises, learn the methods of one and two point perspective and do a lot of drawings. Try playing with cubes, they're pretty hard to draw right.

@Walent- Nice to see you on CD bro. Yeah, I was trying to do it free hand but I guess its better to stick to line tools for now. I'll surely take the above into account in my next drawings. Appreciate it.

Hey I left early yesterday, had to sleep.
That's good, keep making quick one like this, you'll get the gist of it. You actually have the likeness, After that it's only about small corrections of proportions.
Remember that humans are hard wired to recognize faces so it is actually very much harder than any other subjetc matter.

Can't believe I haven't commented on here before! Keep hammering those studies..in spite of yourself they are paying off :) Perspective always requires a ruler or a line tool....unless you're doing some crazy fish eye thing. Use the tools make your life easier :P Catch ya later bro, probably once I'm back from Indonesia...

@Heavenwill- Cheers man, yeah I need to spend more time on face planes. I'm working on it.
@MonkeyBread- You're right, i'll start using a ruler for perspective stuff. The poses I sit in sometimes make it really hard to use a ruler. Cheers man.

Don't believe the hype it's not the middle of middle earth....it's the farthest you can get from pretty much everywhere. ;) But yeah this is my first holiday in 3 years, and only for 7 days...When I get back watch out, because I'm going to kick this improvement shit into overdrive!!! :)

Yeah must be pretty recluse when you live there. I'd love to visit it sometime though, it's kinda exactly the opposite side of the planet from my pov xD

Hey GD,

I noticed you were doing some object studies and I figured I'd share some things I learned at design school, hopefully it makes sense.

Of course, nowadays we have the shape tool and a lot of modifiers but this will help you understand form and design. I think this is what Feng Zhu is talking about.
You basically have to imagine splitting that object in half and see its structure.

I really hope this helps.
