SMRRRR: YYYYEEEEEAAA!!! thanksh :)

So i spent so much time just drawing last month that i feel super rusty painting;like just failure failure, and
more failz. Skin tones are what i'm really struggling with because i really feel like i'm chasing a unicorn.
Some nights i treasure the dreams where i am running through the night with some lightly clothed faceless
girl with black hair and absolutely perfect skin. She's usually faceless, but when she does have a face it kind
of resembles the way Grimes looks in Vanessa. The skin is pale, hit by the moonlight and a cool color, but rich
and glowing. I've never actually seen it in real life or photos, only in my imagination. I will achieve it
though.. The closest i've seen anyone get are those master japanese painters. It's really close but theirs looks
kind of artificial to me; like it couldn't actually exist... I have no idea why i'm so obsessed with this but i really feel like it's the only thing worth chasing at this point artistically.

owell pretentious koala rant over; I'm glad I just have fur and i'm not disappointed by my own skin!

Shit son, thats a ton of drawings in one month! Seriously impressive. I guess thats a mixture between ref and imagination or all imagination? Either way good stuff. I dare you to upload it all! d;

Also about skin tones, if they're under warm lighting, they generally progress from yellow orange, through orange and finally nearly to red in the shadows, and before fill light they are less saturated in the lit area than the shadow area. It looks like you're already doing that a bit, but I think you could have slightly more saturated red shadows and more creamy yellow-orange light areas. Just a quick rule of thumb. Also some of the values are a bit too bright in general. I think overall it's best to have more midtoned lit areas and save the very brightest values for really intense highlights which usually only occupy a small surface area

Pat: aaah i would if i had like 2 days to kill lol; most of it just looks like scribbles and i'd say bout 80% is from photo ref and from artists i like the rest is application. Hey thanks for the reminder about the skin thing; i've experimented so much i forgot the basics lool; yeea painting is harrrrrddd :/

the last one is something my friend drew and i rendered lol; he's very skilled :)

smrrr: im doing lots of studies for one big application at the end of this month :) i'm glad you think i'm working hard i guess i'm just more focused lately! or maybe faster...

shin: Haha thanks, you're right on the money with how i feel lately :>

Some studies and experiments; a lot are unfinished because i'm just seeing if i can even begin to do some things. saw how verehin does grayscale to color and gets strong value structures so may experiment with that tonight :); when people say paintings all about values, fuck do they mean it!

I am pleased my koala friend! Painting abilities keep getting better(last skull is nice), some things look like they are painted pretty hard and some pretty soft, try and find that happy medium!

Thanks for stopping by my SB.

Lots of improvement since page 1, especially the larger brush strokes which have changed to overall look of your paintings significantly.

If I can humbly suggest one thing that might help you overall... Your under drawings seem really sketchy and a little under-developed so when you start painting it seems like you are guessing at what exactly you need to paint at some points. If you were to clean up your base drawing and work out all the structural components of anatomy, clothing, props and such then there might be less guess work. This will help you better plot out your light and shadows more accurately with more confident brush strokes. Just food for thought:)

Your portraits are looking great. You should do more full figures and do some anatomy studies. I noticed as well you tend to draw hands too big. I would go back and do some Loomis proportion studies and do a bunch of imagination drawings to apply it. You dont always need to do a full color painting. You could get a lot more studies done by focusing on black and white or just line art. Remember copying and studying arnt the same thing. You are working really hard though. Keep it up!

The last one, the armour study, looks cool. Nice to see you experimenting with different brushes... I should do that more myself:)

Adam: Thanks! yea I'm focusing on edges and technique this month; i'm almost done, i have big plans for the end of the month i'm gonna try to do a big piece that pushes my abilities beyond this kind of sterile digital look i'm getting. It will be fan art of Soul Calibur and i hope i can pull it off how i imagine it.

Pin: Thx!

second one is a WIP; going for a more cinematic look more controlled and limited pallete; I get tired of doing character concepts, i'd rather tell a story. I also really need to not just do stuff in one sitting i need to take a break come back and look at how shitty/sloppy the edges/strokes get since I need fresh eyes. Flipping it a lot just isn't enough for me.

I wish my sloppiness could be charming and free feeling like Mike Azevedo, or Dave Rapoza's old sketches from like 2011, that stuff i really love. I look at it all the time to try and figure out why it works. instead i just cringe when i look at stuff i did the very same day lol

Uhh KIIIK BUTTT!!!!
