Well today was an interesting day haha, lol i decided to get out for once lol. Went to a restaurant that's run by some 7th day Adventists and i stuck around because i like talking everyone there even tho I'm a dumb Athist. So near the time i was going to leave these missionaries who were training for medical work showed up and needed volunteers for practicing their needle injections and drawing blood. Of course I volunteered and got stuck three times, two in the elbow and one in the left hand on the top.

Then i went to town with my sketchpad because i might be heading out there every saturday to busk for some caricature things and they have a market every saturday with tons of people; so i can make some cash that way since online freelance with me are always pretty grim lol

Also met this dude playing Ukelele who was a fantastic blues singer, and i really need to bring my hand recorder out there more, you meet some strange people. He was really good, but really washed up and you could tell he was into drugs, especially after he told me about his love for God and getting a good bag of Mid instead of Loud because he just likes smoking. He also said that he had a friend named Greg who was a Muslim, and that his friends belief was just as valid as his Christian god, but was also just as valid as any other religion's god, because we're all connected man. lol cool dude though, also was very convinced that Marijuana had anti-cancer properties, which is uhhh... Not want the scientific literature says, despire popular beliefs. Quite the opposite.

Met this really cool black dude named Rick and we talked for like 4 hours and i had absolutely nothing in common with him, but just some people are easy to talk to. So much of my generation of millenials are just these stuck up shit heads who are just waiting to get offended, and they dress like total dweebs, and can't make eye contact for shit. Fuck em. I can talk to random fuckin people for hours, but hell i meet someone i know that i have stuff in common with? Nothing, just blow me off, fuck you if i know you and you do that shit to me and by some 1/10000000000 chance you read this suck my fucking hairy koala dick.

So anyways, made five bucks in one minute drawing a sketch of this big girl's mom, which was cool. It's so strange to me how I can put 30-40 hours into a painting and post it online, and nobody cares or wants a commission, but IRL I've had experiences just doing 2 minute sketches and having lines of people waiting to tip me for what I'd consider very low brow stuff. I guess it really illustrates the scarcity principle and being one of the only people in this town with that skill set. Novelty of the moment is another big thing....

But yea, totally goin back down there, i love it. This is me after I get warmed up, I feel good and confident; So, go out to town sometime and strike up a conversation with just random people, it's enriching, if you haven't already tried. That's an order.

Also made a business card!

whhhhhhheeeewiiieee long day! Started a big ruan Jia study found some nice hi res stuff, they're easy to find if you just google it like 4k res. Workin on some other big files, so my updates may be quite short for a little while; but i will try to at least post one thing a day

So anyways, i thought I'd share some things i picked up from Ruan Jia, or like some techniques.

1. Use the full array of brush types you can, especially grimy and scattery chalk/texture brushes. Also get a good round brush that blends and pushed colors into eachother well.

2. Airbrush is good for adding harmonies, but be sure to blend the areas affected by the airbrush with the round brush to create edge consistency and avoid that blurry look.

3. literally everything on the canvas has tons of harmony, i've read some rumors or w/e that he spends months adding flicks of color to things. Though i find that hard to believe because you can get the same effects within a few hours.

4. Avoid layers and lasso tools as much as you can. Also super sharp edges are rare, but they do pop up every now and then.

5. if you can, make a brush that just adds random colors with each stroke, saves a lot of time; the Seurat brush in painter is good at that, but not very chalky.

Amit: thanks man, I know what i need to do, it's just gonna take time; my little flaws and imperfections are sooo magnified as of late, so i appreciate the kind words from you, means a lot

Aight, started a new ruan jia study, and tried to do this figure study twice, just using the same reference, mabye tried  alittle more measuring the second time, idk i gotta get better at it either way, owell ;)

annnd, trying to finish this demon chick up, not sure what else to do, i know the anatomy/composition problems but it's too late for all that. Finishing stuff can really test your patience tho, it does make  abig diff

aight, so i worked some more on the ruan jia thing, probably some more tomorrow and see how much i can get out of it; I did a study of a cool dress, and found this brush called grad pen in painter12, and it saves SOO much time painting fabric and ribbons since you can just select two tones and it paints them side by side. Also, studied some hampton and i think the chapter he wrote on gesture is just genius, using the landmarks, so i had a breakthrough there :)

Also gonna try to do inktober, but i won't hashtag it since digital is aginst the rules; TBH, idk how to ink and i wanna make a crazy way to do it, so I'm gonna experiment this month with digi to make some cool ink marks and then one day use that in traditional

Hey fedodika, love your studies and painting but I see some recurring mistakes and I wanted to help with that. Mainly the wrong edges on  a lot of your paintings. So here is a paint-over for a recent painting you did to show you and a guide for edges from CA.

Hey nice sketchbook you have here :) Some quick things that stick out to me: First, continue to work on the proportions of your faces, I think they're a bit elongated. When it comes to the painting studies try to keep your light values and dark values separate. Usually secondary light sources shouldn't be as brightly lit as the main light source.
