It's been a while.

My little family and I are all moved in to our new place and are gearing up for graduate school. The next two years will make or break my career. I am twenty-nine, and while I'm not quite old, I'm not quite so young now either. The goal is to produce both a commercial and fine-art portfolio. If everything goes right, I'll have some freelance rolling in by the end of the year, and when the two years are up I will be heading to the Bay Area with my portfolios.

To the youngsters, don't ever stop. Don't lose your momentum. Getting back in the game is hell.

To the old crusties, like myself, fight hard and fight dirty!

Anyways, to the update:

I've spent the vast majority of the last month spending time with my wife and kids, so I am picking back up where I left off.

I finally got my laptop battery replaced, so i can finally start working on digital stuff at a normal speed. Whoot! Side note, I got the keys to my studio, and I'm going to be spending this weekend getting it set up! Monday is day one.

Update on a previous sketch.

So this is my compilation of "to complete" pieces for September. Aside from these, I think I need to throw in two narrative illustrations, then I'm going to start trying to dig up some work. I've got a more character art that I want to complete, but I'm pretty sure after I finish these I need to do some environments and ID stuff. Any suggestions or feedback are welcome.

If I'm lucky, I should start getting some commissions in October...hopefully.

Thanks for all the encouragement! The labor day weekend kind of screwed up my flow, but anyways, I've been doing master studies and bargue drawings all last week, along with starting a still life painting. I've got four illustrations I want to have complete by sunday: these two are the first up because they need the most work compared to the other two.

Top concerns at the moment are refinement and clarity of form. I spent the last go around pushing color variety in the portrait piece and mixing up the colors of the left design in the other piece.

Golden Boy is coming up! I'll definitely be hitting that up, you should too!

Hey man great work on the designs, in terms of clean up all I'd say is try to make it one solid colour around them instead of the marks from painting. Keep it up man! :D
